TMI was a minor accident that was overhyped by an uninformed
press. Here's an excellent video about what actually happened:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL9PsCLJpAA
While TMI was an accident, it pales in comparison to other
nuclear accidents that have happened, such as America's first
nuclear accident at the SL-1 reactor in 1961:

(The guy who does these videos does a great job and really does
his homework.)
No significant events in over 40 years though, as we learned from
those mistakes. Also don't forget the hundreds of Naval vessel
reactors who haven't had an accident in 60+ years.
I sure wish we were building new nuclear power plants as fast as we
could. Safest/cleanest source of electricity there is.

I wonder if you would still say that if you lived in Ukraine
right now.
With bad player neighbors, the "safest/cleanest" can
turn to the complete opposite in minutes. And.. the
repurcussions of damage can have a wide area of devastation.

But we don't live in the Ukraine...

Sure, that's true. But since I live in the USA, I don't worry about something like that. In my original statement above, the "we"
obviously refers to "people in the USA".

Also, let's ignore the fact that there hasn't been a nuclear
accident caused by a power plant breach. All of the nuclear
accidents have been from poor design and human error.
Years ago, I lived very close to a nuclear power plant that was
on the Columbia River in Oregon (it's since been decomissioned).
Never had any issues with it.

Exactly. The only reason why our power costs are not even higher is because
down. Those moments will serve as breaks to catch breath, but in the mid
to long term the world economy will be trapped in a death spiral until we either replace peaked fuels or adjust our habits of consumption.
