(For someone who made his career being macho, when it comes to China,
he sure is a bitch.)
Actor John Cena makes groveling apology video to China after calling Taiwan a 'country'
'I made one mistake,' the actor said. 'I love and respect China and Chinese people.'

Given the choice between sticking to your guns and working in Hollywood, ever again, I think he made a choice.
Don't hate the player, hate the game.
... How does this work, is there an orientation?

I am glad I am not an actor or sports professional who feels like they need to kiss China's rear end every time they say something that is allegedly offensive. China's government is apparently worse than our "woke" citizens when it comes to being offended by everything.

Rumor has it that the recent remake of "Red Dawn" had the Chinese invading America, but the government used the influence of one of the largest market for movies to have them change the antagonist to North Korea. Which makes no sense when you think about occupying the US.

I saw someone call him "John Xina" online and I thought it to be very fitting.
Later,
Sean

My mother was complaining yesterday about Hollywood in general. Mind
you, Spanish film making has been junk for decades, and she spent a lot
of energy defending Hollywood against snobs that said Spanish cinema
was better than 'murican :-) So she is disappointed by the turn the industry is taking.
She said we need a branch of alternative cinema that does not bend knee
to this
crap and only tries to entertain. Kind of like the old action movies of the 80s, which had no other pretension than being mindless fun. In her opinion (which she borrowing from me) we should not be consuming
Hollywood material for
as long as they use our money against us.

I doubt that NK could do it without someone's help, which would
probably be China (or no one at all... not sure they'd even likely side with NK on many issues). I have not seen the original for YEARS but my recollection is that the invading force was somewhat ambigious beyond "Communists." IIRC, the first time I saw it I left assuming it was
Russia and Cuba but was that actually spelled out in the movie?

It was central American "communists" as a proxy with Russian backing and guidance.
