• demise of FB w/FF and w/Opera

From August Abolins@618:250/1.9 to All on Tue Oct 26 20:49:00 2021
Well.. It has finally come to pass. Facebook doesn't operate
    100% with FireFox 52.8.0 or Opera 36.

The dynamics required to start a message in the Messenger panel
for replies doesn't work. The cursor might sit blinking in the
message field, but there is no reponse with keystrokes.

As much as I lothe using FB, it is however the only way to
reach (or spy on) some friends or relatives.

Have you tried the addon, Fluff Busting Purity?? It's available
for several browsers at fbpurity.com -- you can strip out all the
ads and the rest of the garbage that you don't want.

That Firefox version is old already. Ypu should upgrade to a supported version before you complain for bugs. That is standard FOSS advice :-)

Still, any pain and inconveniences you suffer are karma hitting back for empowering Facebook by using it.

I don't know about Facebook, but I have found that a combination of Privoxy, Unbound with DNS blacklisting, and ghack's user.js for Firefox, offer a very clean web experience.

YOu may also replace Firefox with Surf since Firefox is quickly turning into a mess itself, sadly.

I use Fluff Busting Purity (fbpurity.com) to clean all the crap out of Facebook...and have gone to the Opera Web browser. I was using that back
    when it was still shareware.

The "problem" cleared up. After a revisit to FB next day the
Messenger panel responded (populated) although it still too a
lot longer than I would expect. Yet, the entry field (where I
would start typing a message) has an incredible lag when typing
    or when moving the cursor.

I think I can abandon FB and not miss anything. I haven't
spoken to my relatives in person for decades anyway. I don't
think they know that a smartphone can make actual voice calls.

I saw a post where "Facebook has renamed itself to Meta. Rumor
has it that Twitter will rename itself to Mucil. Then, we'll be
on Metamucil all day. And, that's why social media is so crappy". <G>
