It was many years ago when I bought it back when pellots
were cheap (as they should be). They are just pressed
wood. I had bought an entire pallot of them for around
$100 back then. That same amount would probably be $1000
now. It is insane. Cheaper to burn tires.

I thought that the best they could do with with tires is shred
them and use that material for the basis of flowerbeds,
walkpaths, playgrounds, etc.. ..and calling *that* "recycling".

I've seen tires tires used for the basis of homes or retaining
walls (tires filled with concrete or other compacted material).

I think they can also be used for making lightened concrete. And asphalt for roads. It
is not like used tires are useless.

But yeah a lot of that material could just be burnt for the heat if it wasn't polluting and toxic as heck.

Yes, except they're starting to make connections between recycled tires
being used in sports fields with increased rates of juvenile cancer.

A tire that's been ground into highway asphalt for its' entire life, then ground up to make cushioning that your kid will play soccer on? Seems safe!

Reshredded tires emit vapours, all over again. That can't be
    good of anyone.

They do that?!? They take old asphalt and repurpose it on
soccerfields? Sounds like that no one is concerned about any
    health risks.

I have a pile on my property that I wouln't mind repurposing
for a retaining wall to stop some errosion.

If burned at a high enough temp, don't the toxins get reduced
too? Isn't that what an incinerator is designed for?

True, I was just being sarcastic. Similar to me wanting to my a hybrid car from the 1970s.. One that runs on 1/2 gas and 1/2 oil.

"Reduced" and "Reduced to acceptable levels" are different things.

I am not an expert in plastic burning, but it you need to burn a too high a temperature it may stop being
energetically proffitable because you end up wasting more energy in cracking the toxins than in, you
know, whetever you want the heat for.

No, they take the tires, shred them and use them as cushioning under artificial turf. Turns out soccer goalies were having higher incidences of pediatric cancer, and they're making connections to them being in closer contact to the rubber.

My son played flag football a couple of years, and there's be little black pellets on him, the size of a small freckle - rubber flecks from the cushioning.

I'm sure someone knows, didn't care and is making profits on this.
