• Micronet On Echolink

From Daryl Stout@618:250/33 to Sean Dennis on Wed Sep 22 13:09:00 2021
    Sean,

Not a bad idea. Where and when?? :)

It will be a while for me since I need a computer headset badly. I
have QTel (Linux Echolink client) installed; I just have to connect to Echolink's servers. After that, we can set up a server. Might be fun
to get the hams from my BBS Facebook group on also.

True. Sorry I don't have extra funds right now, or I'd send you the money for one. I use a headset mic myself, as it helps filter out ambient noise.

I appreciate the thought. I have a lovely pair of Heil Pro-Audio headphones but I have an iC element in it so it doesn't work with a computer sound
    card.

    Same here - sorry :(

And I don't use a headset for echolink, what little I've done...

At the price of some of the ham gear (and now most everything else), you
can see why. Money talks...mine just waves goodbye. Besides, if the ham
radio catalog says CALL/WEB where the price should be, you can bet it's
    too expensive.

And I don't use a headset for echolink, what little I've done...

It's rare I'm on Echolink anymore. But, I had to turn the mic gain down
with the BlueDV program to -5 -- as my audio was too hot.

If you have to ask, you can't afford it. :-)

I haven't logged on in a while. It was cool at first, but just using my
phone or laptop for it is still not 'radio,' unless I happen to catch
someone on the other end that's actually using the repeater from an
actual radio. :-) Had that happen once. :-)

    Jimmy,

That reminds me of the meme with the guys wife asking him if he bought another radio...and the responses are based on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire":

    A) I won it at a club meeting
    B) I got a good price at a hamfest
    C) I exchanged one of my radios for it
    D) You look wonderful today

As for "D"..."is that your final answer??" (hi hi).

Unfortunately, with my setup, I can't afford RF gear...and none of the
area repeaters are on the gateway. With being constantly interfered with locally several years ago, I basically got out of the local clubs. But,
I'm the webmaster for the Cabot Nightflyers Net (it used to meet on Sunday night on Echolink, but it has been QRT for a long time), and the VE Team Liaison for the UALR Ham Radio Club. Otherwise, I don't do anything in the central Arkansas area.

One of the games I play is called X-Wing Miniatures game. There was a meme where 'death' was talking to a guy. "Your X-Wing order came in and your
wife was at home. Would you like to go now or do you need to pick anything
    up first?"

That applies to lots of gaming hobbies.

Imagine if it was a batch of cards for Magic. Some of that stuff gets crazy expensive.

I think a marriage in which you have to regularly conceal your purchases from the other person is pretty much fucked up. I know because I grew up in one.

There was a similar meme, with The Grim Reaper telling the OM that his
fancy HF rig arrived while his wife was home...and the OM was asked if he
still wanted to go home. <G>

Agreed - I thought it was funny though. :-)

Yep! Actually that's how I funded my x-wing... I used to play a lot of Magic and had several unopened promo cards. I traded in several hundred dollars
worth to Cool Stuff Inc. for store credit and bought x-wing with it. LOL

    YES! Very much agreed!!!
