I have to get the 2nd shot this Tuesday, and then next month have to
get the flu shot. Fun times!
For me, the first was worse but most people seem to have more trouble
with the second one, if they have any trouble.
Here in Ontario some of us got mixed doses. My first was Moderna &
other than a sore arm for about 3 or 4 I didn't really notice anything else. My 2nd dose was Pfizer, I didn't even get a sore arm.

In the last 2 years, I've gotten shots for the flu, shingles, pneumonia, tentanus, diptheria, whooping cough, and COVID-19.
The bad thing is, my shoulder/upper arm is so sore for 24 hours where
they gave the shot, that I have great difficulty sleeping at night...even when taking pain pills.
I'd rather get the shot in the hip/gleute (butt cheek) as I don't put
as much pressure on that area when I sleep. My strongest pain medicine
is Ibuprofen, but I don't like to take it unless I really have to.
Maybe I don't notice it as much due to my evening beer drinking.. :)
I had the 2nd shot yesterday evening (work mandated). I really had no concern overall other than I despise mandates.
I had no reaction to the 1st and so far with the 2nd, nothing
different. Feels like someone knuckle punched you in the spot where
they give the injection, but otherwise all good. Not a big deal and it goes away in around 3 days. Good excuse to have an extra beer.
Beer and Ibuprofen work well. :) I agree though, I don't take any medicines unless it is 100% necessary. I have personally seen what can happen when people think pills solve everything and is their first
course of action.
I've never smoked or drank...and I'd be afraid to mix medications with alcohol.
My left shoulder was sore for 12 hours after the second shot...I had no problem after the first shot.
I quit smoking over 10 years ago. The main reason I decided to quit
was to be done with the addiction. I despise addictions, and was done with it running my life. Fortunatly beer and me have a good
relationship where I don't crave a beer when I wake up in the morning,
so I keep it around.
Beer is also a good diuretic. And, the only thing I want smoking or steaming is the food on the dinner plate (think sizzling fajitas at Applebee's).
It is also good for people that have a tendancy for kidney stones (validated by my urologist years ago). It keeps the kidneys flowing, which is what you want to prevent kidney stones.
Works for me! I don't want another one of those damn things.. I have
had (2) in my life, and that is (2) too many.
[...] But, I've quit drinking soda and caffeine (iced
tea). Yet, that has brought back the migraine headaches
due to caffeine withdrawl. I'm still drinking a half
gallon of liquid a day, but not just water.
As the late W.C. Fields said "I don't drink water. Fish
[have sex] in it". <G>
I'll take it for taking medication, but otherwise, I
just don't care for plain water. The flavored water is
carbonated, and the carbonation might have had an effect
on the kidney stone formation. I try to avoid stuff with
citric acid, including lemonade, as it tends to give me
canker sores with my dentures.
I'm on medicine to control the heart rate, as well as a blood
thinner to prevent clots. [...]

I drank coffee non-stop throughout the day many years ago. I
carried caffeine pills incase I missed having a coffee at my
prescribed intervals inorder to avoid the withdrawal headaches.
But eventually I decided "no more coffee". Going gold-turkey
wasn't working. But I learned that I can wean off caffineated
gradually by reducing the strength and substituting decaf. From
8-10 large cups per day down to 1 half-strength is amazing for
me. I'm hanging on to that one half-strength coffee in the
morning though. The goal is to just have decaf.

He shouldn't be drinking from lakes or pond. That's his
problem.
Have you tried the water/flavour enhancers? I'm trying one of
these recently:

And you are probably destined to be on other meds to control
the side-effects of the previous meds. :/
I know several people who began taking ONE medication for ONE
thing and have ended up with taking a cocktail of 8+ meds every
day.
One woman told me that she would rather have quintuplets, in hard
labor, with no epidural, than one kidney stone. That pretty much sums
it up.
I've had them twice now too. I have one apparently deeply embedded in my left
kidney.
The first time I had them I ended up in the hospital with twice-the-usual dosage of morphine.
I never acquired a taste for coffee...but I used to drink ice tea
by the pitcher!!
Is there such a thing as decaffinated tea??
I didn't start drinking coffee until I was in my mid-20's. Never cared for the taste of it, but them someone introduced me to mochas
(chocolate & coffee) and then I was hooked. I've since backed off of
them since they're not too good on the wallet (bottom line) or my waistline.

There is, but they're very weak, at least any of them I've tried. I'm partial to English Breakfast or Earl Grey, the decaf varieties of these taste like someone dunked a teabag in some hot water for about 10
seconds and gave up.

I'll never know what it is like to have a baby, but my 1st stone was really difficult at times. No question the most pain I have ever felt at times. E with morphine when I was in the hospital, I could still feel it slightly. I wanted to rip it out of my body with my bare hands.
The 2nd one I had about 8 years ago or so wasn't nearly as bad. Never ended in the hospital and never had extreme pain. I also got to see that one come out, which was both creepy and a joyous moment at the same time.
The trick is flooding it out with loads of water and beer.

Mark,
Maybe I don't notice it as much due to my evening beer drinking.. :)
The only beer I used to drink was root beer...whether it was Dad's, Mugs, Hires, A&W, or something else. I think someone referred to it as "carbonated sassafras"...and I've heard Doctor Pepper referred to as "carbonated prune juice".
I had the 2nd shot yesterday evening (work mandated). I really had no concern overall other than I despise mandates.
I had both of mine back in April. I've wondered if 4 months later, it triggered the atrial flutter, or if it was all the stress I've been
having to deal with since my Mom died.
