• Feeling safer

From Sean Dennis@618:618/1 to All on Sun Jan 11 21:14:49 2026
    Hi everyone,

I received a device from the VA today that makes me safer and feel better: it is a device like a Life Alert, but it is completely free for me as it is paid for by the VA. It's small and discrete too. It has fall detection built into it and it will automatically call if a fall is detected.

What's nice is it will work anywhere there's a cell signal.

That makes me feel more comfortable going out on my own these days.

    Hello Sean!

Hopefully it won't break when it follows you in the fall. :/

I'm sure there are plenty of dead-zones in States, but most
metropolitan folks would have cell coverage I guess.

I test it weekly by dropping it on a run four feet up. It will say "Fall detected-calling...". You press the button on it and it stops it, saying "Fall detection cancelled".

It works with AT&T and Verizon (I have both in my area). If I was in an area where there was another carrier, they'd send me another device set up to work with that carrier.

It sounds like a well thought-out delivery for the product.

Did you hear about the new AI toilet announced at CES?
    I think it had a 5K$ price-tag.

Apparently it is primarily designed to call emergency (or a
family member) when it detects it hasn't been used in 12 hrs or
    so.

    Sheeesh.

Other features.. it analyses urine, determines whether you are
drinking enough water.. I'm sure there is other crap. :D

Boy, it'd be disappointed in me.

If it tried to use my urine, I'd short it out!

Some people have more money than common sense.
