• the vinyl comeback..

This is precisely what i thought was *really* happening..
people collecting vinyl for the "art":

"Gen Z is playing an outsized role in the revival of vinyl
sales, which have grown on average by 18% annually in the past
five years. About 60% of Gen Z say they buy records, according
to Futuresource Consulting's Audio Tech Lifestyles report.

"But Gen Z isn't necessarily buying records for their unique
sound. Around 40% of record buyers in the United States don't
own a turntable, noted James Duvall, principal analyst and head
    of entertainment at Futuresource Consulting.

"Fifty-six percent of Gen Z fans like vinyl for its aesthetic,
while 37% use it as home decor, according to a Vinyl Alliance
survey. It's part of what Jared Watson, an assistant professor
of marketing at New York University, calls "symbolic
    consumption."

Wow.. I may be sitting on a fortune and not know it.. I think I still
have about 40 vinyl records. I do have a Dual Turntable at least, but
it's ages since I played a record. And most of mine were only played
once when I recorded it onto a Cassette and used that instead.

These days I don't use either. I have many hundreds of MP3's on my
computer and phone and I don't really drive enough to worry about a lot
of music there but it can play music from a flash drive if I want to.

I can pretty much get many familiar tunes and albums on Spotify
    - even one of the Spotnicks one I got back in pre-1973 - and
access them anyway I like: laptop, phone hooked up to AUX in
the truck, or via AUX on a small but pretty good stereo
amplifier. Spotify is $11.99/mo now, that's far less than I
would normally spend in a year on physical music. Spotify an
play downloaded-songs offline too, which is ideal in the truck.

The Spotnicks album that I was pleasantly surprised to see on
    Spotify is "In Spain 1963".

It was one of the first albums that did some really cool stereo separation/spacial things with the various instruments.

"The Spotnicks were an instrumental rock group from Sweden that
formed in 1961. They were known for wearing "space suit"
costumes on stage and for their innovative electronic guitar
    sound. They released 43 albums"

I took very good care of my copy. So.. $20+ should be
    reasonable.

True.. it's never a good idea to allow a potential buyer to
    meet at your own home.

Just list your contents and a contact number and post on
various social media places. Then arrange to meet at some
public place with the item/s the person is "seriously"
interested in. You should be able to get an idea how serious
that person is after talking to them.

Or.. try to make arrangements to have your stash stored at a

    there for the meet-ups?

To add insult to injury, I had to quit driving, and sell my car in

Yes. things seem to be a lot more dangerous these days that they
used to be, even in Canada. Especially in the cities. I pretty
much live in the woods and would look like poor pickings to anyone
looking to break into a place. My little old 400 sq ft cabin is
surrounded by newer multi-milion dollar summer homes that they
    would choose first..

Maybe you could get some store that carries stuff like that to
sell on consignment for you for a piece of the action?

I suppose a lot of selling sites are set up to not give out
your location and everything is done through shipping as well.

I usually have the local station on in the car but these days
I seem to get a lot more weather warnings than music on it..

I did my 2 week shopping today even though we'd gotten a fair
amount of freezing rain the night before. It wasn't all that
bad, the highways were mostly dry pavement but the back roads
were almost glare ice. The snow piles on the sides of the road
looking like shiny white glass, and walking up and down the hill
from my place on the shiny bedrock was tricky, to say the least..

But they were calling for much colder temps and close to 20cm
(8 inches) of snow this afternoon and overnight tonight so I
figured I'd better drive in today if possible.

According to the weather report I'm supposed to already have
at least 2/3 of that snow by now, but it looks like there's
hardly anything on my deck so, either they were wrong or it's
all blowing away with the strong winds. I guess I'll find out
tomorrow how bad things are. Wind chill of -26c (-15f) tonight
they said. My heaters were running pretty non stop earlier but
it seems to be calming down some now. (1:30 AM)

Or.. try to make arrangements to have your stash stored at a
church or some friend's place? ..and make arrangements to go
    there for the meet-ups?

Sure, then he can kill his friend, steal his stuff and burn down his place. You're off the hook, Daryl.

    Naw, I'm just being sarcastic...mostly.

With not being able to drive or have a car anymore due to vision
issues from dry corneas, I basically am stuck at home.

Are you classified Legally Blind? If so there are a number of agencies that might be able to help. The big one is The American Federation for the Blind (AFB). Their website is AFB.org. In lieu of that, what about friends, family, Uber/Lyft, buses, ride shares, cabs, etc. Also, check with your local/state government for possible services. Also, check with local churches; the larger ones may offer some kind of door-to-door service.

Basically I have about 750 tracks set to play Random on my
computer when I'm doing eMail, and that's about the only
time I play music at home anymore..

Home is my main listening venue, and while I have a respectable personal collection of music--converted from CDs to MP3s, then moved those to YouTube Music--I mostly listen to free streaming services like I Heart Radio, Pandora and TuneIn on my PC or Echos. Right now, I'm listening to Soma FM's "Doomed" channel on my PC.

My little old 400 sq ft cabin is surrounded by newer multi-milion dollar summer homes that they would choose first..

Don't be so sure. Odds are those high-class homes have alarm systems, so while you may not be the cream of the crop, you'd be a lot easier to break into.

I *WAS* legally blind before cataract surgery...as my visual acuity
was 20/2000 for much of my life, having severe nearsightedness. After
the surgery, vision was restored to 20/20, with a little bit of
    astigmatism.

The problem now is "dry eye syndrome" or dry corneas. They cause
my vision to blur without warning, and I realized it became too
dangerous to drive or have a car. I keep a supply of Systane Eye
drops with me all the time. My visual acuity last May was 20/15 in
the left eye, and 20/20 in the right eye...and the eye pressures
were 9 in the left eye, and 10 in the right eye...they have never
    been that good.

I have no immediate family members left. My Dad and wife died 3
months apart nearly 19 years ago...my Mom died 6 1/2 years ago, and
my younger brother committed suicide 1 1/2 years ago. My late wife
and I didn't have any kids, due to medical issues, so I'm the last
of my line. What relatives are left are out of state, older than me,
in worse health than I am, and they can't travel.

I was originally with Uber, but they frauded my bank card, and I
nearly couldn't get home from the hospital. I've been with Lyft for
nearly 4 years now, and have what they call "Lyft Pink", and "Lyft
Senior". With Lyft Pink, I pay $10 extra a month, but I get a 5%
break on rides, priority pickup (shorter wait times)...and if they
send a pickup truck where the step is higher than my groin (and I
can't get in as a result), they will pay 3 of the $5 cancellation
fees per month...and if I book a new ride within 10 minutes, I'll
    get $5 off that.

My HMO does offer 12 medical round trips per year to doctor's
offices/clincs, etc at no charge, as long as the trip is under 50
miles. So that's a great help.

Yes, where I am I could wait half a day for a taxi and then
they'd charge me $80 or more for a one way trip into town..

    That's painfully high.

That's in summer actually. This time of year I might never get
    one to come out here..

I could see that. Where I am, it's easier to get an Uber than a taxi.
    >Cheaper too.

There is very little of that here, too small a population over a wide
area, and even in town they have experimented with a bus, but after
a few months they gave up on the idea.

Cross country busses do stop in town though if you can get on or off
them somewhere else.. Lots of trains too..

Granted, although not only does it look like someone poor lives in
my house I have very little worth much so they will be disappointed
in any case.. I'm not much into flashy stuff..
Plus there are a lot of bigger places that are not obviously owned
by Rich people it would be safer to break into with better goods.
It's happened a few times over the years on the road here..

Ironically, even those 'cheaper' places these days sell for usually
well over a million dollars so the landscape is changing. The truly
poor sell out and the rich tear the place down and build a huge
new place. The joys of living in an area where even a vacant building
lot these days is worth upwards of a million dollars.

On the plus side, at least it's not crowded because they require
you to have a minimum 2 acre lot with 100 Meters (330 ft) of water
frontage to get a building permit.

No trains out here though it's been said we'll supposedly get Amtrak out
here, still an hour's drive away to the proposed station. We used to have Greyhound but the city got into a spat with them so now you have to drive two hours to get to the nearest Greyhound station.

If I could move from here, I would.

No, it depends on the person. I asked Google and it spat out this:

"Permanent dry eyes after cataract surgery are uncommon, but temporary dry eye is very common, affecting up to 37-42% of patients, with symptoms usually peaking in the first week and gradually improving over 1-3 months as corneal nerves heal; however, a significant minority (around 34%) may experience persistent dry eye-like symptoms, especially if they had pre-existing dry eye or risk factors like older age or female gender."

I do spend a lot of time at the comoputer and that causes issues as well. I use Soothe (a pure glycerin eye drop) and Systane (a propolyne [sp] glycol-based eye drop) to help with the dry eyes.

I am still very light sensitive, but I am told that might take 6-8 months to get over as I had cataracts for decades and my cornea takes its time to
    adjust.

I also have moderate diabetic retinopathy and that also may be causing secondary issues. I need to contact my retina specialist and ask if he still wants me to come in to continue to get shots in my eyes.

With the insulin pump, I'm hoping I can get things under control to live somewhat of a normal life again.
