• Pager

From digimaus@618:618/1 to All on Tue Sep 10 18:44:59 2024
I am very seriously considering changing my cell number and getting a pager.

    Yes, a pager.

    https://www.mysecretaryusa.com/alphaserv/index.htm

$14 a month for alphanumeric service with a 92% coverage area in the continental US.

Let them talk to the voicemail.

What's funny is that I have a working Motorola 2-way pager somewhere in my stuff at my parents' place.

What's nice is with the pager, I could have the BBS email me if there's any issues...LOL.

If it were not for certain contacts of mine, would consider doing the same.

Oh yes. Medical use of pagers in healthcare is pretty heavy in the US and I have a friend who has a numeric pager for his office as he is some sort of construction supervisor and often can't use a cellphone for some reason.

The pager is a elegant solution for allowing you to unplug as much as

anybody who rationalizes that they should have a pager in 2024 is a
danger to themselves and others. this is truly warped decision making. watchlist material.

No, numeric pagers are around but if I was to get an alphanumeric pager, I would get a special email address that you can send short text messages to
    the pager.

However, now that I am under Linux, I can have the BBS text me.

I think it has to do with the cell phone using higher freqncies and could
set off equipment. Not completely sure anymore.

I call it like I see it. Do I think Sean can switch to a pager? Yes I
do. He's pretty stuborn. If I could deal with voicemail I could dwitch
if it was a 2 way pager, but it just seems like more work then carrying a
    cell phone.

Oh, yeah, I didn't think of that -- the reason that they ask drivers to
turn off their phones in blasting zones (or at least used to).
