• covid go away day

From August Abolins@618:250/1.9 to All on Fri Jun 11 20:46:00 2021
    Hello All,

Today marked "day 1" of the beginning of the lifting of the
"stay at home" order in Ontario. Being in a tourist town that
serves as a gateway to cottage destinations, *and* being a
Friday, my town was jam-packed with vehicles pouring through
    all day.

I operate a small bookshop along the main street. After
several months of just languishing at the shop and just waiting
for closing time in the months prior, today seemed like the
first day I had to actually do any work, such as being civil to
    strangers.

What I found most interesting though.. is that many of those
    strangers were not wearing masks. I did not mind that myself;
legally I cannot extricate/remove someone if they choose to not
wear a mask, and still want to browse or purchase something.
But it is interesting that most people are treating this "day
1" as a kind of "covid days are over" thing and there is a
    general sense of freedom regained.

That is a good thing. I do not know if you follow American news but it has recently been revealed that our "esteemed" Dr. Anthony Fauci long ago said
in email(s) that he believed that masks were not effective for the general public, only those who had an activ COVID-19 infection. These emails were released due to a FOIA* request so the cat is out of the bag, if you will.

It is my hope that your business will pick up and you will once again be
making money from not only the tourists that flow through your store but
locals also. It is estimated that these needless lockdowns have caused the failure of 60% of the small businesses in the US--including my own--and
these businesses will never return. Because of the sophistry of those who would wish us harm, many people suffered from this terrible situation and
not just the ones who needlessly died.

I'll talk more about in MIN_DEBATE but suffice to say here that it's a good thing you saw today. We in the US haven't been forced to wear masks for the most part and do not have to legally take this "vaccine" ... as many of us
have had COVID-19 and not realized it, building our own immunity naturally.

Anyhow, off of my soapbox. I hope it's a return to a semblance of normalcy
for you. Unfortunately, I think in both of our countries, our governments
are not letting a crisis go to waste and are attempting, though
    unsuccessfully, at a power grab.

Gratz! :) Texas has been "open" for a few weeks now, going smoothly so
    far.

I have noticed this as well, I watch a lot of small auto racing events
via various streaming services and seems like 90-95% of the crowd are
not wearing masks. I still wear a mask anywhere I go, except at the
office, were I haven't been doing so for awhile, but we don't have
    visitors there.

But I have noticed most people are more than happy to toss the masks
    and go maskless.

    Hello Sean Dennis!

Yes.. I heard about the leaked emails. The same attitude about
the masks was shared by Canada's "top" (gov't appointed
spokespersons) doctors too. First they said, masks are
ineffective. Then they said only the N95 ones are worthy to
consider, then they said "face coverings" of some kind are
better then none, and then they even suggested that a double
layer of the cheap surgical ones would be a good minimum

It is my hope that your business will pick up and you will

Thanks. I get people coming in and saying "I'm so glad that you
are still here and open!" But the reality is that I've
accumulated more debt and losses. Not sure if I should just
walk away from that whole effort to some restoration. There is
absolutely no way that I could make up for the losses and new
debts two years into this economic homicide imposed by the hand
    of the gov't.

There was no need for "failure" of businesses. The businesses
did not ask for their business models to be interfered with by
lockdown measures - yet MEANWHILE, creditors and banks were
    untouchable?

Thanks for the hope for my biz to return to a point that might
care about it. I'm just so angry at the gov't. They're
certainly not going to get an tax dollar out of a biz that
reports losses in the last 2 years and now perhaps beyond -
    which is all their doing.

Not sure what you mean by a power grab.

That's true...even if it is a Timex (apologies to John Cameron Swazye). <G> But, I like the tagline about "6:30 - the best time...hands down". :)
