    I had a somewhat restless/wakeful non-sleep a few days ago, and
that was around the time of the full moon. I doubt that the
full was the cause and effect, but thinking of that folklore
didn't help either. I am sure something else was "off" or
different to make sleep no happening - maybe it was the
culmination of too many non-decaf coffees, or cheating with
breads or sugar from candies that I was having around that
    time.

Sleep and I have a loving relationship.

But, L. Armclock and N. Somnia are trying to break us up...the jealous whores!! <G>

To make matters worse, earlier today...my headset mic, the sound card,
the ThumbDV, and the BlueDV program (all that I do D-Star with), decided
to join my web browsers, and all crapped out.

So, I'm off the air, net wise, until further notice. I uninstalled
Firefox, Opera, and Chrome...but was able to get Chrome back on (I
    didn't want to use Edge).

If that wasn't enough, I likely am going to have to sell my car within
2 weeks to pay some bills.

I was up at 4 this morning, while I was asleep I thought I heard the
old broken doorbell ring, then I wondered if it was a dream or if I
actually heard it. But I didn't feel like getting up to go look. And if
it was real important they would have knocked on the door.

Glad to know I am not the only person that hits the grocery store early

My neighbors and their "two minute friends" are what is keeping me up. I
think I may need to start capturing license plate numbers and giving them to someone I know that can help.

LOL, I am really lucky in my complex that most of the neighbors seem to
be quiet types. All 48 units are 1 bedrooms, so mostly single people
ages 20-70. I want to get a 2 bedroom somewhere, but not sure if I am
ready to deal with noisy neighbors.

Usually everyone is too hung over or outside to care about shopping. Though
I am not an early riser normally, I will make an exception to be able to
shop in peace. Besides, since a lot of stores in my area either have one
day set aside or everyday at an early time for "seniors and vunerable
people" to shop in peace so once I get a car, I will start doing that.

As I have aged, I have started to have panic attacks in crowds (I found out only recently that panic attacks run in my mother's side of my family; nice
to know after twenty years of suffering with them) so I try very hard to
    avoid crowds these days.

I am not sure if we had that hear, but it would be a good idea, even
now after the pandemic is settling down. Give people that need more
time to shop and look around time for themselves with people rushing
    them and things like that.

I will admit, I am in a similar situation, not sure if it is age or
what. Not crowds, but any significant medical issue has spawned panic
attacks in me. I had a really bad thigh cramp one night that started an
attack and when I was passing a kidney stone, I had a couple of them.
At first I didn't know what was going on, but my ex-wife recognized it
    and told me.

Areas just north of me in Virginia received eight inches (20.3 cm) of rain overnight. Here, we can get heavy rains any time of the year and often do!

From the US National Weather Service's Weather Prediction Center in College Park, Maryland, in today's national short-term weather discussion:

"The second half of the week continues to be headlined by a seemingly never ending fire hose of monsoonal and Gulf of Mexico moisture that is
producing a conveyor belt of heavy rain and thunderstorms from the
Southwest to the central Appalachians. After multiple days worth of heavy rainfall in parts of the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys and central Appalachians,
the prospect of additional heavy rain and thunderstorms makes these
regions more vulnerable to flash flooding, as well as rising creeks,
streams, and rivers. The steady onslaught of rich atmospheric moisture and potential for training thunderstorms makes it likely that additional flash flooding is anticipated in these areas. As a result, a Moderate Risk
(threat level 3/4) is in place for eastern Kentucky, southern West
Virginia, and far southwest Virginia. It is here where flash flooding is
not only likely to unfold at times today, but flash flooding could be significant to even life-threatening in spots. The threat for flash
flooding extends as far west as the Middle Mississippi Valley and as far
east as the central Appalachians where Excessive Rainfall rates may lead
to flash flooding in these areas as well. By Friday, a cold front
approaching from the north will push this conveyor belt of rain and thunderstorms a little farther south into the heart of the Mid-South, but
parts of West Virginia, eastern Kentucky, and southwest Virginia remain
under a Moderate Risk for flash flooding."

Luckily I am just south of SW Virginia and in a much lower risk area.

Autumn is fine until rains start. Then the pastures get flooded and
they are stuck in the barn for longer.

Areas just north of me in Virginia received eight inches (20.3 cm) of rain o

    That looks bad enough.

The problem I have around here is that whatever rains takes long to disappear, so if an area gets covered in water it takes ages for it to evaporate. For a pasture area, it means the place is unusable for quite a while. You cannot take the horses to wet pasture because they stomp the grass into a mush and ruin it, so even if it is no longer flooded, as long as the soil is too wet, it is a no go.

We have that problem around here with an above-ground water table and hard-packed rocky clay soil. Some places stay flooded for months
during the rainy season. Heck, at my parents' place, I remember in
January 2019 the creek rose eight feet above its flood level and made
everyone go 10 miles out of the way to get to town...except me. I
drove ovwer the little flooded bridge in my 4WD Pathfinder. :D

    Hi everyone,

I really, really dislike summer. The good thing for summer, for me, is that it means my favorite season, autumn, is not far away.

It's the start of the holiday season; warm days, cool nights; hot cocoa; and sweater season... <G>

Since my "new" truck doesn't have A/C, autumn means I can be outside driving at 1 PM and not be dying of heat exhaustion!

Yikes! Gotta get one of those retrofit A/C kits :P

I put one in my 68 Mustang and it makes driving on hot days much more bearable. However, I need to tear out the interior and put some insulation layers down, the heat coming from the transmission and exhaust still turns the car into an oven.

The good thing is that the engine is a V6 from an '88 S10 and has the
mounting bracket for an A/C compressor and the additional space on the
pulleys for A/C. I will eventually get one of those kits when I can afford
it and have another vehicle to drive.

I've just the vinyl mat on the floor so it'd be easy to upgrade. This truck was a "work truck" model from the factory according to the VIN. Bare-bones
but that's the way I like my vehicles as it means less to go wrong.

Not at 100F yet here but at 89F with 94% humidity, it might as well be. I
know how miserable it gets down there during summer. I still miss southern Arizona (outside of Phoenix) when it's 110F with 4% humidity. Just turn on
the swamp coller and relax. No A/C needed!

Neither does mine... I was on afternoons this past week, so I melted a few
days that Andrea needed her car. Most of the week she came home early for
me to borrow her car so I didn't melt on my way to work.

These 40c days (with humidity) have been insane.

Here in the US South, thanks to a massive natural tropical maritime air mass that hangs out in the Gulf of Mexico that constantly blows humid air, it's miserable due to high humidity even here in the Appalachian Mountains.

Our local Koppen climate classification is "humid subtropical climate" but we are right next to an "oceanic climate" and a "humid continental mild summer, weat all year" climate so we always are damp around these parts.
