It's amazing how well you can hear conversations you're not supposed to with hearing aids. Mine are behind-the-ear models and you can't really see the audio tubes going into my ears. With my ability to fine-tune
how the hearing aids operate with my smart phone, it is hilarious to listen to some the bizarre conversqations around me...
My mother is in the market for hearing aids, but she doesn't think that with tinnitus being her biggest complaint that amplification would help. I'm hoping that modern tech will help you tune out certain frequencies, like the Hear brand of earbuds a while ago.

My sister is in the same boat. She spent the last 2-3 years investigating/visiting doctors and audiologists and found that nothing
was going to work. She tried many brands of "aids" with no luck. I
wish your mom the best of luck!
Like I told Kurt, my hearing aids help my tinnitus a lot.
Since I wear hearing aids, I pushed her to continue her
search. So far, she hasn't had any luck. Any
recommendations that I could pass on?

Please let your mother know that I have tinnitus (it's bad enough that I
10% service-connected disability for it) and that my hearing aids arepecifi
lly designed to help with tinnitus. Hearing aids these days do not simplymp
fy; they also can perform noise cancellation to help tinnitus sufferers.

+1 for my father. His are also adjustable via his phone, and he can
have phone conversations on them. They have done wonders. You don't
have to yell to talk to him any more. OTOH, you also cannot talk with
him nearby and count on him not hearing it. :)
These are the ones I use: https://www.phonak.com/en-us/hearing-devices/hearing-aids/audeo-paradise
They changed my life.

When I wear my hearing aids, my tinnitus is nullified.
Oh, that would be amazing.
It is amazing, to be honest. I don't leave the house without my hearing aids. Driving is much easier and safer for me with them in.

When I got my first set of hearing aids (loaners from
the Audiologist), I was
driving back to work. I had to call my wife and ask her
why she didn't tell
me my car was so noisy. <VBG>

Yeah, something is beeping in my living room but I can't find what it is...
Thinkgeek.com used to sell the Annoyatron - it was a tiny board the size of a USB stick, with a piezo speaker, a button cell battery and a
magnet.
You'd put a battery in it, stick it someplace inconspicuous, and at a random interval of a minute or so, it'd beep. And beep. Until the
battery ran out.

Behind a co-worker's metal desk at work would be perfect.
