The iron fist once came out when someone spelled your name incorrectly. It's "SEAN, not SHAWN!!! - LIFE TIME BAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" LOL!

I don't remember that but I believe you. There was a time when I'd do such
a thing. I still have a temper but it takes a LOT to get me that upset. If
I get really upset, I pay a pretty exacting physical toll these days. I
just can't get so mad else I get sick. I still get irritated a lot though. Try as I will, I don't think that will ever change.

Yep. My lower left leg is suspiciously swollen and I am worried. I was
able to get an appointment at 3 PM with my doctor to have my leg checked
out. Swelling like that can be a symptom of Charcot foot or a blood clot of which I want neither. Hopefully things will be okay.

My right leg did that about a year ago. Right in the first shutdown.
I was able to get an ultrasound pretty fast though (as doc thought clot) however everything was working fine and swelling went down on it's own.

    Rats, foiled again.

That one might cause problems unless there is a modern port of it.

There is source code (I believe this may be original source code?) that one could compile it from:

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/arc/

Fun fact: Phil Katz ripped off the ARC source code from SEA and created ZIP from it. Dirty little secret of his. There's an interesting video called
"The Troubling Origins of .ZIP" on YouTube about how Phil got people to use
ZIP even though it wasn't really his original work.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lu7sY1LOWiI

He probably just took cues from Microsoft. If it wasn't for Bill Gates'
mother lobbying for him at IBM, IBM wouldn't have used MS-DOS.

Nothing wrong, thankfully, though I think I may have been eating too much
salt. No ultrasound for me though; the VA would rather you die first than
make it spend money on you rather than buying art or solar panels.

You might remember this, but Phil's ZIP predecessor was actually called PKARC/PKxARC. SEA called him on it, so he switched briefly to
PKPAK/PKunPAK (which still produced, and opened, only ARC packets), before coming out with PKZIP/PKunZIP.

I assumed he changed the compression method and not just the extension, but
    I guess maybe not. :)

The last installment of Jason Scott's "BBS Documentary" has an interview
with the author of PKARC, talking about the issues with PKZIP. It's a shame Phil Katz passed away, it'd be interesting to hear both sides of the story.

He changed it just enough to be able to call it his own even though it was
    far from anything original.

I've always had better results with other archivers like ARJ, RAR, and such.

It's interesting how the BBS community had a hand in ruining SEA and its products.

The only reason I use ZIP is because of its defacto standard status.
Otherwise I'd not use it at all.

Same here, but with ARJ and LZH. By the time RAR got popular, I think I
    had give into ZIP. :)

Yeah, I don't think most of us had the full story back then. For several years, I would convert any ARC and ZIP files on the BBS to ARJ or LZH, partially because I was running on a system with limited disk space and
those usually made smaller files. I think I quit doing that when I started adding CD ROM collections and/or when Windows pretty much made ZIP the standard. By then, I had a bigger HD, too.

I've been a registered user of RAR for at least 15 years now and I'm happy

I just use 7zip. I never found the need to register RAR when you coulñd use 7zip instead. It comes with an unrar utility too.

RAR handles multi-part volumes quite well and as someone who used to work a
lot with USENET, RAR was the "defacto" standard when it came to working with archives distributed via USENET, much like how ZIP is a standard in BBSing.

I also registered RAR for its AV stamp ("authenticity verified"). I had problems in the early 2000s with people screwing up my Cheepware release archives by inserting BBS ads and the like into them then redistributing
    them.

When it comes down to it, it's a personal preference. These days I tend to
use tar.gz files all the time. There is a new archiver I found the other
day, though the name escapes me now, that purports to be a hybrid of 7Zip
    and RAR.
