My current car would be an Outback if they were not so expensive.
Even a used one with 100K miles cost more than the car I
currently have.
Expensive? Subaru provides a lot of bang for the buck, in my opinion. Even a
loaded Outback wouldn't be more than $40K, would it? I'd call that cheap, these days. You better not go looking at full size pickup trucks if you think
that's expensive... ;-)
subarus are for hipsters!
Out here in East Tennessee, Subarus are popular for their AWD.
It does provide bang for the buck, but those are bucks I don't have.
:) I would not even bother looking at full size trucks!

I discovered, much to my surprise, that my '95 Nissan Pathfinder XE 4WD SUV is
rated by my scooter manufacturer to carry my scooter and a lift (class III hitch). So the next vehicle I get I want to be able to carry the scooter too though the 2022 Nissan Versa S (I had a 2016 that got totaled in Feburary 2019) is nice for an in-town and short-trip car.
Yes, although everything has gone up of course, trucks in particular
have just gotten ridiculous in recent years. And yet.... the dealers
can't keep 'em on the lot. Even with their crappy gas mileage. :-)

And even with the chip shortage. Back in early 2000, I bought a
2000 Mustang. One of the dealers I went to, the saleman that I
was talking to said he usually sold trucks, and that he preferred
to sell them because the markup on the trucks was a lot more that
on cars.
I was not too surprised.

That is a good discovery!

It is. I'll probably install air shocks in the back of the Pathfinder to help with the extra weight. I can bolt on a Clase III hitch really easily as there's bolt holes pre-drilled in Pathy's frame.

you can probably just buy another pathfinder that is newer and better shape for a few thousand.

Yeah, I believe that's very true (the markup is higher). I think in
the last 6-8 years the margin has grown even bigger. To get a
nice/loaded standard duty 4x4 pickup these days, you're in the $70K neighborhood.

I bet the prices on post-1976 trucks that run on unleaded gas but
don't have frills/computers must be going up in price, too.
Oh no. Pathfinders are in demand and expensive. Besides, I own this one and I've already fixed so much on it that investing a little more to get it going is a good thing. My Pathfinder is a first generation model which means it's body-and-frame, so I can easily fix things rather than dealing with a unibody construction.
It's honestly not in that bad of shape for its age. It was just neglected by my sister who ran it partially into the ground and I've rebuilt/repaired about 80% of the damage.
I have too much money invested in it to just dump it and get something else.
well it's 1995. how many miles are on it?
putting too much money into it is part of the problem, too. have to
cut your losses. and they probably started unabody after the the mid 2000's so you could still get a newer suv. not worth it.

Around 250K. Low mileage for a Pathfinder.

I have to put in less than $2000 to fix it. Around here, $2000 would get you
a jalopy. It's much better to work with a known quantity than unknown.
Besides, I like my Pathfinder. It's a good vehicle.
Now I will be getting another vehicle, more than likely something
full-size,
such as a pickup or an older work van.
it's best to just get rid of it, but it's your vehicle. but it looks
like a hoarder thing to me. you think it's going to be useful, it
isnt. it's just been sitting there for years. anything you have
like that you should toss or give it to someone else that can really
use it .

I can really use it. Why the hell are you telling me to toss it then?
I'm going to drop this conversation now.
