    good water change, then only leave enough water that is as deep as

    Then I'd move it like that. But I've only moved short distances.

    If I had to move long distance, best bet would probably be to re-home
    the fish and get new ones once setup in the new place.

    water is very heavy though and it can put stress on the sides of the tank when you are moving. i moved a 250 gal tank from my ex's basement to her upstairs and it was a pain in the ass. she had a narrow stairway and a tight turn.
