    Hello All,

I am safely back home. The triple bypass surgery will happen but I have to somehow get three teeth pulled first. I have to be careful and avoid stress as much as possible. But I am doing okay for now. :)

    Good to know.

When I want to be stress free I spend some time with horses. Maybe you should try it :-) I suspect it is not feasible, though.

Sorry for a stupid question. Is Dental free for you? Here there is no
dental coverage so I would die before the surgery to fix my heart. I'm
going to the dentist in a 1/2 hour for a cleaning and that will run me
way more then I can afford.

No, no free dental here. It's a real scam in the US for dental care. Thankfully I know an oral surgeon so I am going to ask him what he knows.

I think it is less "arrogance" and more "We have rules, but certain people is allowed to force their boundaries while other people isn't."

When you mention that somebody from the cool group is forcing the boundaries they usually snap at you rather than recognize rules are being bent.

THe network is still serviceable enough but you need to be aware of this.

Well, nothing, in reality. It just seems (to me, at least) that many of
them are in to the "scene" thing, with humongous scrolling ANSI dragon
pics and such as you log into their boards. Now don't get me wrong, I

g00r00 just made mystic because the lame rg developers at the time told him

i don't get why people run mystic. i've checked it out multiple times over
the years and i don't see the benefit.
maybe they don't know about elebbs or other softwares.

with synchronet, it comes from a lame crowd, but you can make it however you want. also rob is a good programmer that listens to feedback. luckily over
the years the contributers who would crap up the cvs are gone or have just cleaned up their act. there were so many undocumented, unfinished, unworking scripts they would upload.

i think everyone should be running telegard.

In my experience, the best way to gain converts is to show them some program that does something they need on Linux or BSD for which they don't know a Windows alternative. If the Windows alternative exists, hush as a whore :-)

My father was sold into Linux because he asked me to help him manage his ebook collection, so I installed Callibre in an old Linux laptop. He started using Linux just because of that and nowadays that is the only thing he wants to use.

My mom uses Firefox and Thunderbird as her primary programs. When I explained to her I could easily move her FF/TB profiles over to Linux, she commented that "there's no reason for me to use Windows anymore". She also liked the fact that the older but still very reliable HP color laser printer she paid about $800 for would work just fine under Linux and not break all the time like under Windows (I double-checked HPLIP support before I said anything; I have to install the HPLIP binary blob but that's a non-issue).

My father was sold into Linux because he asked me to help him manage
his ebook collection, so I installed Callibre in an old Linux laptop.
He started using Linux just because of that and nowadays that is the
only thing he wants to use.

Calibre is a great program. I've used it myself.

I'm pretty much all open-source here, for everything.

I'm trying to here as much as possible, such as my doors (which I
have been neglecting for quite some time as well as my BBS).

The doors are still running fine here, and I suspect your BBS is up.

It is amazing how much time my health takes up these days.

Some things are more important than others. Take care of that first.

Then don't go looking in that stupid fsx net where all they do is cry.

I have already been told that I am not welcome there. Besides, if I want t hear crying, I can go into Fidonet and poke a Dutch sysop to hear them cry about how I am "usurping" echoes from them. LOL

hahah .. hang in there buddy. Wish ya well.

Theres a certain aroma of arrogance on Fsx I can't quite explain but its "there".

Reminds me of the nets that started up local around me after I had MetroNet running for a few years back in the 90s. Some k-rAd kidz thought they were cool and knew it all. So yeah, I get it. History repeating.

My first attempt at a BBS ran on Opus, then went live with Telegard, and
then to Maximus - because it reminded me of Opus.

It's amazing to think of a self-contained, single package that could provide
a BBS, mailer and tosser capabilities - and run on an XT-class system.

That was back when programmers had to hand optimize everything, usually for memory usage and/or disk space usage. Speed of execution was a secondary consideration, due to the price of memory and hard disk space. I still remember the days of archiving BBS files on floppy disks to make room for new ones on the hard drives.
