yeah i did that with zeronet. those guys have one track minds and don't like anybody different than them. they said both you and I were dispached by some person named guido.

nobody would 'dispach' me, ever. i'm living proof of that. i'm like a bad case of herpes that never goes away.

long ago i unplugged from zeronet and i gave it a chance on graveyard and i yanked that too. I'm not a fan of most msg nets. micronet has good people though, and i still post on dovenet even though i have 95% of the people on there twitlisted.

Dovenet is not that bad. There are some trolls, but they are trolls you may watch eating popcorn.

On the other hand, FSXNet seems like a special case. It is very active, but the network enforces happy-flower conversation by removing any subject that may cause friction, so it is less of a fun place to visit. Plus some people seem alowed to force the boundaries of the rules more than other, which is a bit meh.

This 100%. I get the "fun" part of Fsx but whats fun about being told what you can and can't say. Its moderated more than Micronet or Fido and usually more heavy-handed towards those who do not share liberal beliefs.

Hahahahahaha. You gotta just love it.

It is certainly not a paradise for socialists (far from it) but maybe there are 2 or 3 people with an openly libertarian streak. As many as regular socialists, actually. What I see there is lots of traditional conservatives, rather.

But well, people likes to complain. As long as they do, I will watch them complain while eating popcorn \o/

    Nick

Actually, I have seen the FSXNet approach used in specialized web forums and it works ok. "This is a Building Engineering forum, so any thread about politics will be deleted unless it directly affects Building Engineering." THe core difference is that those are services with specific, non-fun goals. Students go to an Engineering forum because they need help with some design, so talks about COVID policies and whatever are just pollution.

The problem with banning friction-causing subjects in a general message board is that, ultimately, most generalist subjects have the potential to cause friction. The thread about SSD performance comes to mind, for example. THe implication is that if you are serious about removing friction then you cannot even talk about the weather in the board.

Of course, what happens in practice is that controversial subjects seem to be allowed as long as they echo the beliefs of the administration and are labeled as banned as soon as somebody voices an opposing view. The best example that comes to mind was that thread about fucking Russia and Putin... the thread was as political as it gets and was active for more than a day before I reminded them that politics are not allowed, and still one of the regulars got pissed by the reminder.

FSXNet is still useful as of now. It has a very active userbase and an interesting subject pops out every now and then. However, they remind me of so many forums that ended up turning into echo chambers that I find it concerning.

yeah i've checked it out over the years. it doesn't really seem like it has any substance. but it's his shit and he can run it how he likes.
in my old age i've found that things sort themselves out on their own and censorship and moderation doesn't really help.

i've tried to avoid liberals because nowadays they lack the ability to accept other's opinions and points of views.

But theorectically ANYTHING can be deemed controversial if
someone disagrees with something. Hence, there is no room for
    passion there.

There is a very simple solution to that:

    (1) Public affairs issues are off-topic.
    (2) All discussions should be carried out in a civil manner (for some definition of civility that does not encompass your own idiosyncratic
    bullshit).
    (3) Just because you think something is a public affair and/or offensive
    does not make it so.
    (4) ******** if you dont like it.

Or, as a modification to (1):

(1a) Public affairs are off-limits unless they have direct impact on the stated purpose of the forum, and even then you are not permitted to argue
in favor of positions that damage the ability of the forum to continue
    operating.

That latter rule is the one more or less used by certain forums that operate as rally-points for certain politicians... sometimes stated openly, but usually not. There is no problem really if they are open about it, but those who run around pretending they are open to everyone but then proving otherwise can eat a dick.

At the end of the day they can have their gay little network if they want it.
I mean at this point what does it even matter when there arent that many people calling or posting anymore anyway?
