    Hello All,

I found out today that my lungs are operating at 66% capacity and that I have bad asthma. I go in for a test in six weeks for lung function but my allergist believes that I do have asthma. I am also allergic to damn near everything that grows judging by the prick test they did on my back.

I am more than likely going to need some sort of assistance, possible an oxygen concentrator. I have been noticing the past few months that I was getting unusually winded but I attributed that to medication I am already on.

I'm being given an inhaler and an additional nasal spray (I take Flonase already) to help with allergies and my breathing. I may wind up using a nebulizer also.

I reported this to my Social Security lawyer that is going to report this to Social Security directly.

I'm glad I found out what was going on but now it's something else I have to worry about. :(

Ugh, sorry to hear that. I've had mild COPD for 10 or so years now. I
do my best to exercise my lungs as much as possible. Walking and of
course playing the trombone helps a lot too. I do take a heck of a lot
more breaths than my fellow players.

I also had that allergy prick test 10+ years ago and had a lot of
things show up on it. I didn't feel it was very accurate though. I
continued to have allergys even after a lengthy dosage of shots.
Finally the best thing that works for me is taking Levocetrizi (Zyzal)
nightly. The majority of my allergies were sinus related and I haven't
    had a serious episode since.

I'm glad I found out what was going on but now it's something else I
    have to worry about. :(

Sadly we are getting to that age. I am recovering myself from a ESWL
procedure yesterday, they blasted a kidney stone with sound waves.
Pretty cool tech and no incision, but I am still sore and have some
pain. They also put a stent in my ureter which doesn't feel great, but
not as bad as I thought it would be. I'll get it taken out on 22nd.

maybe that's what i have. can they detect that in an x-ray?

i've had xrays and they say my lungs are fine but my lung compacity sucks.
    i never notice any problem.

i'm not super athletic but i'm never winded going up several flights of
stairs. i'm also a very shallow breather.

when i take physicals i do that blow test and i have a horrible time.

Yes, that was the first test. On the 24th, I am scheduled to have a methacholine challenge test at the local hospital (not the VA).

"It can help your doctor evaluate symptoms suggestive of asthma, such as cough, chest tightness and shortness of breath, and help diagnose whether or not you have asthma. During the test, you will be asked to inhale doses of methacholine, a drug that can cause narrowing of the airways. A breathing test will be repeated after each dose of methacholine to measure the degree of narrowing or constriction of the airways.

The test starts with a very small dose of methacholine and, depending on your response, the doses will be increased until either you experience 20 percent drop in breathing ability, or you reach a maximum dose with no change in your lung function."

My allergist is pretty sure I have asthma. This test will prove it.

I have suspected I have had asthma since I was a boy but it's only become serious these past few years.

It's just another challenge to overcome, that's all.

Possibly? I am not sure. I smoked for 30 years or so and that was what
did me in probably. But I have not seen a pulmonologist in a good
while. I had an insurance change and the one I was seeing was not in
network and I haven't bothered to find a new one since I have been
    doing ok.

i'm not super athletic but i'm never winded going up several flights of stairs. i'm also a very shallow breather.

Well that is doing pretty good LOL. I don't have big issues, but
hauling groceries up a flight of stairs can make be breath harder or
sometimes even taking a shower. But it's manageable.,

i can take multiple trips of cat litter that amount to like 100-120lbs per

my biggest fear is getting something where i cant breathe and dying.
my whole childhood my mom smoked around me and at night it was like someone
was standing on my chest. i used to wheeze and cough. it was pure hell.
just last night i had a dream that i couldnt cough and i had something
blocking my airway. i was probably trying to eat my pillow. but seriously i woke up and walked around and i was coughing to make sure i could.
