Internet.

I am not sure how to "fix" my system from doing that, but I suspect its coming via http on synchronet bbs so I disable all http functions until I can figure out how to stop "twits" from doing that... Sorry for the trouble.

I had someone do that also. Left a first-logon message like any other real user. Logged on a time or two after, then started posting spam like that. No way to stop those really until after they've done it that I know of. :(

Thanks for the info, I have turned off web access for the moment... But I guess that wouldnt stop someone from doing the same thing via telnet?

As Jas pointed out, I cannot remeber if my "users" did it via web or
telnet. If I remember correctly, I thought one of them was not via web but it has been several months back.

do you know what bots are?
do you know what bots are?
Of course I do, I was just pointing out that it was wrong of me to shut off web access as a new user or a bot could do the same damage via telnet if they really wanted to..

you don't even have to remember. you have logs that record all this stuff.bsc
if there's a bot that is rigged to do it via the web or telnet... it does not tter. change your setup so their script does not work. security through
ity if you have to.

Regards,
you're just pointing out that you do not know what happens on your
system nor do you know what measures to take to prevent attacks.
There are things you can do to prevent spam bots from creating
accounts via your web and then posting.
The same is true to your telnet end (which is less likely to have this issue)
a bot could do the same damage via telnet if
they really wanted to..
bots don't have wants.
I don't entirely blame YOU, i blame the synchronet developers. years
ago I said it's not a good idea to have our msg bases open up on the
web and be defaulted to be readable by bots. they agreed but said it
was 'cool' so kept it.
Yes, but if you have them set up to trim off after so much time, you don't have them going back as far as when this happened here (which I think was about a year ago).
Rick might be able to look back and figure it out on his system, though, as it was recent.
I cant tell you how relieved I am that I you dont blame me
... Can I write
you a script for some xanex perhaps?

you would if you had backups. and why would you wait 1 year to look at logs.
