I am not sure how to "fix" my system from doing that, but I suspect its coming via http on synchronet bbs so I disable all http functions until I can figure out how to stop "twits" from doing that... Sorry for the trouble.

copy over another file over your apply one. that way they can only apply on the bbs. also there's probably a setting.

you can moderate your msg bases, or you can rig it so they can only post after x amount of logins. apparently someone mapped out synchronet bbs's functions and made a bot.

anybody that gets compromised doesn't provide enough info to how it happened. so we dont know if it's happening via the web or telnet or both.

you don't even have to remember. you have logs that record all this stuff.

if there's a bot that is rigged to do it via the web or telnet... it does not matter. change your setup so their script does not work. security through obscurity if you have to.

you're just pointing out that you do not know what happens on your system nor do you know what measures to take to prevent attacks.

There are things you can do to prevent spam bots from creating accounts via your web and then posting.

The same is true to your telnet end (which is less likely to have this issue)
a bot could do the same damage via telnet if
    they really wanted to..

    bots don't have wants.

I don't entirely blame YOU, i blame the synchronet developers. years ago I said it's not a good idea to have our msg bases open up on the web and be defaulted to be readable by bots. they agreed but said it was 'cool' so kept it.

Despite that, the fact is, we are responsible for our own systems. We should know them and know how to prevent attackers.

Yes, but if you have them set up to trim off after so much time, you don't
have them going back as far as when this happened here (which I think was
    about a year ago).

Rick might be able to look back and figure it out on his system, though, as
