    Hi Candy,

You are correct - they all all message networks. BBS's typically have a
mixture of local echos and international (message networks).

Micronet is a mail network that allows for distributed mail. Basically, my BBS is the main connection. I have hubs, or other BBSes that connect directly to me, that my system passes mail to and from with. Each hub has several systems (nodes) that connect to a hub to get mail.

The exact terminology for this type of networking is "store and forward".

    If you see a /1 in a BBS's address, it means they're a hub.

This type of network is also called a "FTN" (for Fidonet Technology Network for Fidonet, the original mail network that pioneered this network topology).

It's 40+ year old technology and is rather esoteric these days but we try to keep it alive. :)

The original D'Bridge author worked with JoHo to invent EMSI, but seems that he wrote his own extensions, like chat screens and file-downloads during a mailer session.

He also mentioned in the F1-Help screens that "Greg Dawson" was possibly the original author of Areafix but I can't seem to verify that anywhere.

Apparently CNN during the Gulf War did a quick news snippet about SaudiNet and the different MS-DOS mailers that carry international Echomail traffic for stationed soldiers and their families back home.

Last paragraph: "Thanks to Greg Dawson for all the work he put into making the Areafix utility".

It looks like he held the FTN addresses of 1:106/111, 1:106/1, and 1:106/55 from 1987 to 1996.
