I used to get yelled at when I was in school at ITT Tech for SSHing into my server at home by the school's IT tech (an older guy). I really pissed him off when I set my SSH port to 443. He couldn't prove otherwise.

I'd sit in class, bored as I already knew this stuff, and would work on the BBS and chat on IRC using irssi.

I actually could have been kicked out of school for doing that but they let me do it because I'd help teach some of the classes. <G>

That experience reminded me of a similar situation I had back when I was 18 years old. I graduated from HS, went into a summer tech program that also did job placement and was employed before the end of the calendar year.

I started working professionally in IT at age 18, but felt I had to at least experience a few college classes since my work offered to pay for them.

Two classes I took. One was 'C' programming and the other was one you had to take if you wanted a degree, which was some type of health class.

Both classes made me discover I wasn't missing anything by not going to college and I hated both of them. The 'C' class lowered my grade because I used logic routines they had not covered in class. It wasn't by problem that I already knew this stuff and was taking it just for the credit. Total BS.

The health class assigned me to do a report on alcoholism which I was sitting in class drinking a rum and coke.

The two experiences confirmed that college was not for me. I never looked back and did just fine.

I'd highly recommend CompTIA's A+ and their Network+, Security+, and Linux+ certs. My A+ cert has allowed me to get jobs I'd not have otherwise. I have a lifetime A+ cert as I received mine in 2005.

think it's a hot occupation for my area, nor does it pay what i'm looking for. I've done everything except truck driving pretty much. from 18 through 29-30 I would have a regular job and then take off the summers to work for my family's hotel business. Talking call ins is honorable, I was the only one taking call ins for 2 1/2 years at my old job, No matter what time in the night. It got so frequent I just ended up taking the night shift to ensure the place ran smoothy 24/7 and it did right up to the covid shutdown.

The best thing was they paid you 4 hours just to punch in plus your time.
So 4 1/2 hours to replace a fuse and leave only to get called back 3 minutes into driving home, worked another two hours on another machine got paid 10 1/2 hours plus I worked a 10 hour shift already that day. Do this two to four times a week I was making some serious loot.

Unfortunatly the Government also made some serious loot. :|

I work with someone who has that as the email notification on their phone, every hour it goes off...

Wow. That'd get annoying really fast.

I disabled both audio and vibration notifications on calls, emails and now texting. I'm actually one step away from turning off ALL notifications.

Some moron I have to work with for a customer of mine is using Imesage on a Mac, so what he does is type one sentence, presses enter, another sentence, presses enter etc. over and over. This shows up as individual texts on my Iphone thus it just gets "stupid" with the noise and buzzing.

The worst part about programming as no one reads the damn docs then complai to you about it, right?

Sometimes one can spend more time updating docs than an actual code-fix.

You're right: that's because he actually knows how to use Linux, unlike you.

Instead of trash-talking software you can't comprehend, why don't you fix Renegade? Wait, you can't...you have to get other people to add features and break things, but you can't fix the software you peddle as your own (which it isn't).

I'm glad you keep posting in Micronet. We all get a laugh out of you so at least you're semi-useful.

Okay ... who added light bar file listings, msg base light bar listings, echomail nodelist lightbar browser. Yeah, me. No one has worked on RG but me since 2024.

Get your facts straight before you show the asshole you truely are.

    He didn't say Linux.

I use Linux every day. I can't stand it because of the kids that think they are "hackers" because they know a few command lines.

I'm glad you keep posting in Micronet. We all get a laugh out of you so at least you're semi-useful.

Okay MRO .... you sound just like him. I can't wait until you die off like the rest of the assholes in the BBS world that thought they were higher than thou. So go back to the nursing home, have your boy run your bbs and network for you and retire to old reruns of Happy Days.

Maybe then you won't be so miserable of person. People laugh at every post you make because you are one of those scum bags that are always "oh, I hurt this today, I fell today, I hurt my arm today." Always out there looking for attention. I don't even know why I bother writing back to you other than I hope it makes you mad enough to break your PC Nick had to give you because you couldn't afford $40 to go get a PC. If you can't afford that, you shouldn't be running a BBS.

While we're at this .. what is wrong with Renegade? You just pissed off because I won't port it over to another shitty language and want to keep it on DOS. And you can't run it because you don't understand a DOS command prompt and always used a menu program back in the old days?

I'm done with you, so go piss off or your pants, whichever you do daily. Mr. NEW Professor.

As usual, you didn't answer my question. Instead you babble on, being pious and making an ass out of yourself.

You also end with an ad hominem which is a logical fallacy and you still avoid my question.

Nice one, T.J. I see your discussion skills are like your programming skills: non-existent.

So, when are you going to fix Renegade? As in fix bugs and not add useless features and break the original structures of the program?

As for my being out of line, your comments without knowing the whole story make you look like the fool.

Yup. Thats me ... what bugs are you referring to, as you don't even run the software. Yup, I don't know Pascal, you caught me. Yup, someone wrote my door I just released too. Yup, and all my RG utils, yup. That was someone else. Dude, grow a dick and shut up. And by me using words like this does not mean I am angry, I do it for fun.

If you don't know the whole story, shut up.

Oh, trying to shut up more people ... maybe you should add 'shut up' to the end of your rules in bbs carnival on fido.

Oh hey! Make sure you let everyone know how your next doctor appointment is. We're ALL waiting on the news!!!!

Why didn't you fix the bug in your Chinese Zodiac door that I asked you about 15 years ago that is still there. That's probably why you're pissed off .. you can't. And it's been eating at you for all of these years.
