For the Synch sysops: does Synchronet have some sort of automated request system for a Micronet node number? I have been receiving a lot of very short 8-line "node apps" for Micronet, which I immediately reject and tell the sysops to fill out an actual node app...and I never hear from them again (which IMNSHO is a good thing).
If you dont want Micronet in there, you could ask Rob to remove it (or maybe not send the app part?)

I don't mind but he should have the program grab the app via the infopack.
I appreciate that he thought of Micronet and I don't want to sound like a jerk about it.

Thanks for the info.

There is a script that some new sysops are using to set up FTNs but I
was not aware that it was that advanced -- sending emails after they finished setting up.

FWIW, I think it does download the info pack for the user...
All of the emails are identical save for the obvious. When I send a
replky back that they need to read the infopack and fill out the node
app, I never hear back. I think it maybe beyond their capability do follow instructions.

Simple enough to ignore. Especially if you are taking the time to
reply asking for a correct application. I agree with you though, it's not like it takes a long time to fill out the micronet app.
The iron fist is settling down!

So I get a ton of applications - with my email address hardcoded - that
I cannot respond to because they are almost 95% unroutable / undeliverable.

Here's the latest one I received with needed retractions:

They almost all come from the Synchronet DDNS domain.
If they don't stop, I will force all emails from that domain to be
rejected by my webhost's mail system.
If they are not following up then it is there problem.

It's as simple as that.

Y'all could reach out to Rob and help him improve the process. He's
easy enough to reach.

It also makes me wonder if I really want them in Micronet.

That's not a bad idea. I mean.... if they want to fill out an app correctly they will get a node number much faster. :)
The one issue I can see here is if a not-new synchronet sysop
applies, who has their *.synchro.net address set up correctly with
Rob, their filled out application form could also get rejected.

As it should be. That's not the correct application form for Micronet.
I'm just gonna back outta this conversation as I'm just talking out my ass anyway. :)

That has been tried a few times to no avail. I have a reply from him
that removing my email is "not possible because of the sheer amount of installs out there".... even though we all know most Sysops are like
kids at Xmas always eager to install the latest version.

I received a response from Rob. He has added some code to the script
that will include a blurb to notify the potential sysop how important
the email address they enter is and also some code that will check for
a vaild MX entry for the domain entered.
It's be nice if he asked for permiassion to include my intellectual property in his damn steaming pile of shit software too. How fucking lazy do you
have to be to click on a download link to get the latest Micronet infopack?
They would have to be pretty lazy not to click a link for sure. The application is not difficult to fill out (so long as you know how to
set your software up!).
I could have done it quicker, but I can't find my glasses.

This is a problem I can relate to! :D

I was pretty pissed when I wrote the last message because my temper got the best of me.
I'm the same way. No glasses, no way to see fine detail or read.
Been using readers since I was 40.
have to repeat the same thing over and over. I have most lately been banging my head against the table trying to explain "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" to Alan Ianson. He either doesn't understand it, or they teach it much differently in the posh parts of BC.

What he does is completely deliberate. Its all a game, an act.

I started with readers at 47 I think it was, but a few months after
that I needed the eye doc to write a script. One eye is much worse
then the otehr one is.
