• Alternative To Explorer

From Daryl Stout@1:19/33 to All on Wed Mar 31 23:09:00 2021
I run Windows 10 32-bit on what was my late Mom's computer (a Dell
desktop), which is where The Thunderbolt BBS is now. For my computing
work, I run Windows 10 64-bit on a Lenovo laptop.

Explorer was known as Windows Explorer in Windows 7 and before (I
didn't run Windows 8, so I'm not sure what it was in that). Under
Windows 10, it has been renamed and redone to File Explorer.

However, the other day, whenever I tried to access the Downloads
folder under File Explorer, it would lock up "tighter than a frog's
butt underwater"...which made it difficult to access downloaded files,
    program screenshots, etc.

I did a search with DuckDuckGo under Mozilla Firefox, and found a
nice freeware replacement utility called Explorer++ -- it looks and
feels much like the Explorer utilities, but there are no ads to deal
with, and no cost. Versions for 32-bit and 64-bit are available.

You can download it at https://www.explorerplusplus.com

kind of a shame isn't it.. i feel like the explorer goes in and out of being perfect pretty often .. sorry to hear the windows 10 one is on it's way out for you.. i still like it quite a bit!

i was actually exceted to see this though:

    https://github.com/Microsoft/winfile

the original windows file manager from windows 3.x all open sourced and ready for improvement!

grated there's about 20 years of "this and that" missing from it.. but it's pretty quick nonetheless

(thanks for your link by the way. bookmarked it.. windows 7 definitely has a yucky file manager i'd like to replace it with)

I don't see anything particularly wrong with Win7's explorer.
Except for not being able to search for files by specific size,
or between a range of sizes, it's good enough for most things.

When I need a more forensic search, I use UltraSearch.

Yep. Total Commander for Windows (since 1993). Tux Commander for Linux
    (since 2004). :)

    Cheers,
    Paul.
