The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 606, 609
continues.

SUMMARY...Scattered severe thunderstorms will continue propagating south-southeast this evening. A watch extension may be warranted
across southwest KS.

DISCUSSION...Several supercells have matured over the central High
Plains this evening, primarily from near Hays KS into Cheyenne
County CO. LLJ is strengthening ahead of this activity from the TX
Panhandle into southwest KS, aided in part by a weak short-wave
trough digging across south-central NE/northwest KS. This activity
has developed a significant cold pool, and should continue
propagating southeast as modest instability is noted ahead of this
convection, especially across southwest KS. While 00z sounding from
DDC exhibited substantial capping around 700mb, mid-level lapse
rates are steep across this region, and large-scale forcing ahead of
the short wave may cool this layer enough for further development.
