Areas affected...Southern Nebraska...northern KS
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 541...
Valid 222253Z - 230030Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 541
continues.
SUMMARY...Scattered severe thunderstorms will continue across the
watch area with a risk for damaging gusts and large/isolated very
large hail.
DISCUSSION...Severe thunderstorms, which earlier initiated in the
vicinity of a northeast-southwest surface trough, continue moving south/southeast across southern NE/northern KS at 2250z. These
storms have a history of large/isolated very large hail up to 2.50
inches in diameter and damaging gusts. In the short term, storms
are expected to continue to pose a severe threat within a moderately
unstable air mass and 35-40 kts of northwesterly shear. This should
support a continuation of supercell storm structures through early
evening posing a risk for damaging gusts and large/isolated very
large hail.
Farther southwest across western KS/eastern CO, severe thunderstorm
coverage remains rather isolated, but a continued severe risk is
expected for a few more hours as instability/shear profiles remain
similar to farther east.
