    Mesoscale Discussion 1140

    0732 PM CDT Sat Jun 17 2023

Areas affected...Southern Kansas...Central and Northern Oklahoma

    Concerning...Tornado Watch 327...328...

    Valid 180032Z - 180230Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 327, 328 continues.

SUMMARY...A threat for wind damage, large hail and tornadoes will
continue over the next few hours from southern Kansas into central
and northern Oklahoma. Significant hail and wind gusts over 70 knots
will be possible. New weather watch issuance will likely be needed
from south-central Kansas southward into central Oklahoma by 02Z.

DISCUSSION...The latest high-resolution radar imagery from Vance Air
Force Base shows a severe fast-moving MCS over southwest Kansas
extending southward into the far northern Texas Panhandle. Several
supercells and short bowing line segments are embedded within the
MCS. This cluster of severe storms is moving east-southeastward at
near 50 knots. Significant wind damage with gusts greater than 70
knots, and hailstones of greater than 2 inches in diameter will be
possible with the stronger more intense parts of the MCS. Tornadoes
will also be possible with parts of the line that exhibit rotation,
and with discrete supercells that persist ahead of the primary line
segment. New weather watch issuance will be needed as the MCS moves east-southeastward toward the eastern edge of the ongoing watches.
