I have a love/hate relationship with it. Overall I enjoyed the series, but lots of things made me sad, or just irritated me.

Star Trek has always taken chances with stuff that's not quite "scientific". Beings like the Q have been around since the very beginning, The "galactic barrier", etc. Roddenberry tried to squeeze in "The crew meets God" on multiple occasions and was rebuffed (which was a good thing, look how Star Trek V turned out). The spore drive though just kind of hurt my brain. Eventually I came to accept it, but it felt like more fantasy than sci-fi. Mushrooms are fascinating and there's a lot we still don't know about them, but believing there's an entire network of mycelium throughout the galaxy? eh...

Discovery focused more on problem solving via emotional intelligence vs logic & experience. I guess it's a valid way of doing things, and they seemed to challenge it a bit when they brought Rayner in on the last season, but trying convey and bring viewers along for that emotional journey each and every episode was a little exhausting.

I feel like Detmer, Owosekun and Zora all got done dirty. I know the actors had scheduling conflicts during season 5, and that's why they weren't around in the second half, but I really wanted to get to know them as characters. Maybe we would have if we got a season 6, but they had a full 4 1/2 other seasons to do that. Season 6 supposedly would have told a much longer story leading up to what happened in the Short Trek "Calypso", instead of the tacked-on ending we got in the final episode. I'm guessing that was a huge part of the "reshoots" that were done after it was announced Season 5 would be the last.

All in all, Discovery was just "OK" for Star Trek. I'm incredibly happy that it launched an entirely new era. It directly spawned "Strange New Worlds" which is fantastic, the upcoming Starfleet Academy series that will give us more Tilly (Mary Wiseman is amazing), and the Section 13 movie with Michelle Yeoh that I'm really looking forward to.

What I'd really want to see though is an entire series on Jett Reno. Tig Notaro's dry humor and razor sharp wit put me in my happy place. Fingers crossed that she moves to yet another career as a teacher at Starfleet Academy :)

    Spoiler space...

I went back and forth on DISCO, thought it stumbled along the way as did
a lot of people. I thought Burnham didn't have the right to dispose of
the progenitor tech in the singularity, since neither they nor the
progenitors made it. I thought that Burnham would transcend into some
sort of caretaker and become a ward of the technology.

Nice retcon, returning discovery to its pre-32nd century look so the
    Short Trek wasn't ruined.

Loved the Kovich reveal. So, apparently Kovich's appearance should be
Daniel's natural aging from the 20th century?

Someone brought up the point that if the breen was following them, they
should have used the Spore drive to jump in the opposite direction, then
jump to the archive. That'd slow them down. Too many mistakes seem to be
made to keep the plot going.

Was Aryam in the flashback scene?

Looking forward to SNW - Pike is a helluva captain and makes Burnham
    look like an amateur, IMO.

I want to see Jett run into Boothby, and see who could out-snark the other. He'd need to be a Lanthanite, as Boothby was supposedly born in 2260. it would fit in with his wise demeanor...
