You raise a very goog point with the shields. Then again, why are star ships flying around without shields at all. I figure that it isn't a huge toll on power and it always helps them prepare for the unknown.

I would imagine that shields powerful enough to stop a phaser or photon torpedo would be energy drains on the engines. They wouldn't need them during routine maneuvers and travel, as they have navigational deflectors to clear a path of any objects or debris they encounter.

The main shields have a definitive lifespace, as they take damage and weaken.

    Hello,
You are not the only one with Issues with Avery Brooks. I may not go as far as saying he was a horrible actor but i do notice that he tends to over act in some scenes. He tends to be over dramatic at times also. I did like him though.
I really didnt notice the foul language in the new Star Trek shows. I am sure it was there but it is something I usually wouldnt notice.
I really like the new Trek shows. If i had to pick my main issue is that they have been forcing social issues into Trek. I know the counter argument is that they have always done that over the years but i kind of like to escape the politics of the day when watching these shows. Some of it seems forced to me. I dont have anything against it. I just see some of it as very much forced. One thing that sticks out to me is that they took over half an episode as a lesson to call the one character with the "they/them" pronouns. Again, i have no issues with anyone, i just would like these things to be an escape from real life. I know Star Trek has a history of this and i am ok with it but it seems forced on the new shows. Maybe it is just me. lol
I am kind of missing Trek right now. I watched Star Trek VI last night. I cannot wait until i get more Trek. Hopefully with less F words!!! :)

I agree - just leave real life out of it. But, this is typical of
Hollywood. They are alwasy promoting their own agenda regardless of how
forced it feels in the shows they produce.

    Hello,
I have a good question. What do you think the best movie was. I would have to say Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan. I think if that movie flopped, Star Trek may have died there. I am not sure TNG would have taken off. Maybe it would have.
What does everything think of the JJ Abrams Movies? I think they are decent movies but they just dont seem like Trek to me. I did like how writers were able to use the destruction of Romulus in Season 1 of Picard. That kind of officially made the JJ movies a part of cannon.

In my opinion, Star Trek IV and VI were the best movies.

ST IV has the best humour in all movies and doesn't take itself too
serious - but also contains a (although simple) nice story with an
    important message to humankind.

ST VI also contains an important ethical message and is a good movie with
    the Klingons :)

I don't like ST II very much as it mostly is about revenge and one bad villain, which isn't very attractive to me.

What does everything think of the JJ Abrams Movies? I think they are
decent movies but they just dont seem like Trek to me.

Same, they are more of Star Wars movies but not really Star Trek.
I stopped watching ST movies after I watched the first JJ trek movie...

Besides that, I didn't like the visual style, as I almost got sick from
all the camera wiggling - and the cuts were way too fast for me to really catch what's on screen in a given moment.

    Regards,
    Anna

I think Wrath of Khan was the best Star Trek movie, definitely. It was
a good story and an outstanding performance by Ricardo Montalban.

I liked the first JJ Abrams movie a lot. I think he did a great job with
it. The other two I don't even recall much about them. I need to
    re-watch those to be fair.

Star Trek IV was my second favorite - maybe even tied with Wrath of Kahn,
but for very different reasons. It was the fun, light-hearted Trek movie
    that I really enjoyed.

Yeah.. kinda makes me wonder about that. I mean, if its not such a draw on power, why not have them on all the time? Hmm. There must be some reason why because its constants throughout the whole series.

Hmm. You raise a good point. ST1 was disappointing after such a break from TOS/Animated. I'd agree, if STII flopped, that would be it. No question STII was decent but I really thought the pinnacle was STVI.

Interesting when you look at II, III and IV.. essentially a trilogy of sorts.

What does everything think of the JJ Abrams Movies? I think they are decent

It's not bad.. slightly different take on trek. Although I enjoyed watching it, to me, seemed like just a scifi movie and not the trek I wanted.. and I'm still trying to figure out why. I think a big portion of that is how new and modern things look... after many years of trek. In all fairness TOS fans prob felt that way with TNG.

I liked the progression from TOS -> TNG, but I wanted Enterprise to look
much more primitive. The design of NX-01 looked like a 200 year newer Akira- class ship, and the interiors felt too new. I would have liked those little gooseneck viewers on the helm as a callback to the TOS pilot Enterprise. :)

Yes, that was my issue with that series too. In fact, this is in part why I didn't really care too much for ST reboot. I was thinking something more primitive.. simplistic. I suppose its hard to go backwards when the tech and know how is far more advanced.

Yeah, a Daedalus-class ship with a big round primary hull and little tiny
warp nacelles wouldn't test well these days.

What I'd like to see (and you're seeing a little bit of it in DISCO and Picard, and to some extent the runabouts and Defiant) are smaller ships,
like the Archer-class scouts. Get a little BSG-ish and show crew bunks, let you feel the size of the ship.
