    They asked me to "Upload a verification selfie." I'm being totally serious, an
    I know that sounds ridiculous. So I uploaded a photo of myself (not a selfie but a photo that someone else took of me) and they said "You were asked to upload a selfie and you have not complied and now your account is permanently suspended."

    Sounds like someone maybe hacked your account and used it for bot posting.

    Also, I hope you made sure you were on facebook.com, or their official app, before sending them any photos.

    I concur. That's the most likely reason.

    However, it's usually some crypto trader or similar who is the hijacker. It has happened to me a couple of times that a friend suddenly starts DMing me with recommendations for all kinds of crazy stuff.

    Reasonably easy to recognize. Unless you live in a paranoia bubble where everyone from the Deep State is after you.

    I've never seen anyone doing it for bot activities, though. Not much money to make there.

    It was definitely facebook.com. I don't think there was anything posted at all. I didn't have any friends added, so I had no audience to speak to anyway. I searched for some people, but didn't send any friend requests.

    It's weird. I read stories around the net about other people having a similar experience.

    How does demanding the user to "upload a selfie" resolve that issue?

    I feel violated.
