I see Slackware development (both 32 and 64 bit) has updated to kv-6. Same with slackwareaarch64-current although I have yet to try it (any version).
I did take slackware-current out for a look about a month ago.
There was only one minor issue I encountered,
I don't remember what it was now but I'm sure it has been or can
be resolved now.
The next time I need to partition I am going to add an extra
space for stuff like that.
Speaking of which I have framebuffers working but no joy on boot penguins ... yet. The legacy boot is an inteldrm based jobber (aka Little Mikey's
Brain).
For sure the amdgpu is the better option as far as boot penguins are concerned.
I am not even sure what driver my lfs is using. lspci -k sees it but doesn't report what the kernel driver in use is. That machine has an nvidia card and I tried to build the kernel with the noveau driver but it hangs on boot so I don't add that support. I wonder if building it into the kernel or as a module makes a difference. I'll try again and see if I can make that go.
I don't see the penguins here like I used to. I'm not exactly
sure why.
I recently booted the arch linux live CD and there were the
penguins, only two in my case but there they were.
My laptop uses amdgpu if I am not mistaken.
04:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Picasso/Raven 2 [Radeon Vega Series / Radeon Vega Mobile Series] (rev 92)
Subsystem: ASRock Incorporation Picasso
Kernel driver in use: amdgpu
Kernel modules: amdgpu
I wonder if building it into the kernel or as a module makes a
difference.
I just booted kv-6.1.5 with the nouveau driver and it worked this time.
That makes a nice difference.

It is still widely used. I use it on a Raspberry Pi, and on some
other low-powered devices (a Wyse thin client) which will not run 64-bit OS.
There are many other examples and use cases.
