Most Fido-connected Synchronet systems support SMTP->FTN gating: <name>@f<node>.n<net>.z<zone>.fidonet

The question remains: how do I send an email from my gmail address to 1:103/705 ? I tried to send an email to: Rob.Swindell@f705.n103.z2.fidonet.org And got an error from Mail Delivery Subsystem: "Address not found

Try replacing .org with .fi
Firstly, you'd have to connect to a Synchronet SMTP server (e.g. mail.synchro.net) when sending the mail message. Secondly, it's
".fidonet" not ".fidonet.org".

I wanted to send an email from my own gmail account using smtp.gmail.com. A long time ago I remember it worked with fidonet.org. The gate isn't working anymore :(
Try replacing .org with .fi
I did that. I tried from my gmail account via the web
browser and also from an OE type mail client using
smtp.gmail.com. Both times I got the same error from MAILER-DAEMON@mx9.tkk.iki.fi : "Failed to deliver to '<Ghil.Zvidgzul@p117.f1081.n5030.z2.fidonet.fi>' LOCAL
module(account vsoup10) reports: Plain text messages only
to the fidonet gateway. Sorry. :("
Is my gmail account and also my email client somehow
converting my simple text message with Subject "test" and
body "test" into html format?
Hello, August!
Try replacing .org with .fi
Thanks.
It works!
For it to work when "Create Email" from my mail client is
to select Format->Plain Text. Because "Rich Text (HTML)"
was selected by default.
Right.. I should have mentioned that plain-text was a
prerequisite. Did you get a good result using Gmail?

Did it bounce back or something?
The "address" has to be precise, and it MUST be in plain-text. I'll
send you a test message from my Gmail. My last test to myself was delivered.
i've received yours, but not mine. first i've tried as
html, then i had the error message bouncing back. then
i've sent plain text. no error message received.

My first try with gmail to myself failed too. Maybe there is a
lag in the toggle to "Plain text" and I inadvertantly flipped
it back to html? The gmail editor panel seems to remember the
setting to "Plain text" the next time I log in to use mail now.

i've used my mac's built in Apple Mail and self-hosted
email not gmail :)
