Running on NiMH here
creaking and responding to the gusts. This morn all is much calmer but house cool at 12C. :( 3 small sticks of birch and some cardboard are currently consuming in the woodstove - will be good enough to heat up
some water for coffee.
As long as you get coffee. ;) We had some winds here
too, but the power cables to our building are
underground so thankfully didn't lose that.
I thought we were gonna lose the living room windows at
one point though but everything stayed in place.

The side benefit with the stove (primarily for warming up some water
for coffee) was that the main room temp climbed from 12C to almost 16C
in about 1hr.
I have an old upright oak piano, never tuned for over 20 years and
never played (primarily by me) for as long. Maybe easier to rip that apart for wood than to try an move it out of the house.

It probably would be easier yes. The trick to get rid of it is
to find someone to take it for free if they move it. That's how
mom got rid of hers.

We have a cabin in the Lake Tahoe area, and have warmed it with a wood stove
every winter for the past 35 years. I was surprised I could get it from 22
degrees F to 55 in the course of a half-day.
Sorry, too early for F to C conversion for the rest of the world. It's the
first morning of Daylight Saving time and I'm on my first cup of coffee.
... The most easily forgotten thing is the most important

We're hoping to get rid of a day bed that way. Keep your fingers
crossed.

storage! So, even if I offered it up for free, there would be
no takers in my neighborhood.
Based on the non uniform colouring, the keys in my particular
piano appear to be genuine ivory too. :/ Perhaps I can
repurpose the keys into an art piece as way to honour the
proboscidea that made its contribution.
Yeah... I'll probably strip it down, salvage what I think looks interesting, smash and burn the rest.
I even have an old worn-out fold-out sofa bed. It's heavy as
hell. There's no way I can get that out of the house all by
myself either. That's another one I've imagined needs to be
taken apart metal-piece by piece.

If it's genuine and you do decide to strip it down.
Check out some carvers and see if anyone is interested in
carving it? I would love a key to try my hand at carving
it.

Sounds like either do that or put some plants on it. LOL

I had one of those years back. I left it in an apartment
I moved out of because I couldn't deal with moving it
again.

keys are ivory laminate. There is a 1/8" layer covering the
wood. The most you would be able to carve into that would be
grooves. Is that sufficient? I'd be happy to send you a key.
I would have to get rid of the sofa bed first before I can
tackle the piano decommissioning project. And there is "stuff"
piled high on the sofa bed now too. :/
