    a road with few turnoffs. I saw $7 in San Jose.

    Yes, but Big Sur is an outlier - they're miles from the next gas station on a road with few turnoffs. I saw $7 in San Jose.

    Also, I forgot to mention, that gas station in Big Sur keeps the prices higher than the norm to disincent people from filling up their tanks there. Getting gas to the station is a pain, and they want to be there for people who need gas to get to the next gas stop 30 or 40 miles away.
