• A500 mini

From Björn Felten@2:203/2 to All on Mon Mar 21 16:38:01 2022
I must admit that I fell asleep somewhere around 5-10 minutes within this video, so when I woke up I was convinced that it had all been a dream.

But then I rewound it and started over again, certain that it was yet another fake/click bait video. But the more I paused/rewound the video i realized that this really must be the Real Deal.

Can this A500 mini really be true?

I urge y'all to watch it (it's almost 50 minutes, I know...) and tell me if you think that this can really be an affordable product?

Well, I think I'll have to watch again a couple of times, and do some Google work, before I believe what I see...

What do you mean can it be true?
It is the same as the C64 Mini.
A very cheap chinese CPU with an Amiga (or C64) emulator on it.

But yes, it is true. (and not very good, sadly)

In what way? Do you mean that the original A500 is better?

I still have one A500 in its original box, waiting for it to be worth keeping rather than sending it to recycling...

    No ;)
I mean it is an overprized Raspberry Pi that pretends to be something else.

It is just a funny looking case (the mini has a keyboard molded that looks nice, but is just a piece of fixed plastic. The Maxi [not yet released for the Amiga] at least has a functional keyboard on top of the Raspberry Pi like SBC emulator.)

Anyhow the mini is just a SBC with an amiga emulator and a cheap USB mouse and a cheap USB joypad which is overprized.

If you have some time, it is probably better to buy a Pi 3 or 4 and let it boot into UAE.

I also have an Amiga 500 and 1200 somewhere.
Have not used them for ages.

Sure, the original A500 is much better in being an A500. It actually has a working keyboard und is absolutely a 100% cycle accurate in everthing it does ;)

Also, who whould have ever used THAT kind of gamepad with an A500.

I still have one A500 in its original box, waiting for it to be worth keeping rather than sending it to recycling...

There are for sure people who would like to have it. So please don't recycle.

That's pretty awesome. We actually had an Amiga store not far from my house when I was younger.. My friend was supposed to meet me there and sell me his Amiga 1200 for $100, but he never showed up. The Amiga store had an SX-64 for $100 and an Amiga 500 for $100.. so with $100 burning a hole in my pocket I just had to get one of those. It was a pretty hard decision, and even after picking the Amiga 500, I was never really sure I made the right one. The
store did hook me up and upgraded it to 1MB AGNES RAM, then I could switch to PAL with software and watch the good demos.

One of my buddies back in NET202 (San Diego) ran an amiga and even Amiganet. I remember him and me combining on the Y2K project to list all the compliant Amigaware. I seem to recall only 1-2 that had issues and they were cosmetic?
