• Tag Lines in NNTP Posts

    From dragon@VERT/IPTIA to DOVE-Net.Synchronet_Discussion on Fri Sep 24 13:52:53 2021
OK, I'm having trouble finding where to enable taglines in posts made
via the NNTP server. Is this supported?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Taglines on newsgroup articles are normally added by the NNTP reader/poster itself, not the server. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your question.

That's not a server-side thing. Taglines are traditionally added by whatever program you write your messages in.

In my case, I'm using SlyEDIT, which is an external editor in Synchronet. Sometimes I use GoldEd, which is a complex pile of ... something, but I find it good for reading/replying to fidonet messages.

In your case, whatever newsreader you're using would need to insert taglines. I don't know of anything modern that does it, unfortunately, but it's not something I've really looked into.

Yeah, I meant to say "Origin Line". If I post a message to my BBS via
NNTP, and that message is then tossed to echomail, shouldn't it have an
Origin line appended to it by the BBS?

EchoMail is a FidoNet term. If your BBS exports messages posted via NNTP to a FidoNet network (i.e. using SBBSecho), then yes, an Origin Line will be automatically added to the EchoMail message at the time of export.

I'm responding to you via an NNTP reader connected to my BBS. None of
my messages have an Origin line. What am I doing wrong?

Your response to my message here came via QWKnet (not FidoNet), so an Origin Line does not apply. Your message did have your system's QWKnet tagline however:

FTN Origin Lines are added at the time of export, so you're not going to see your message body with Origin Lines on *your* system, only on other FTN systems where you messages was distributed to.

Color me doofus... Thanks for the info, he said sheepishly.

I should have known this. I was a Regional Echomail Coordinator in my pre-geriatric days.
