So today I was playing around with my TI-99/4A and I came across a wav file for a game I used to play back when I was a kid called Cars and Carcuses. When it starts up it says:

    'Cars & Carcuses'
A game by not-polyoptics, a division of Synchronet

I'm wondering if that's the same syncrhonet as synchronet bbs.
Anyone know any history on this?

Nope, just a coincidence. There are (and have been) a lot of different products and services/companies that have used the name "Synchronet" over the past 30 years.

The only challenge/complaint I got was not about the name Synchronet, but rather from another company named "Digital Dynamics":

By that time (late '95), I wasn't doing a whole lot of 'business' under that name, so I just ignored them.

"As you know, Digital Dynamics, inc makes sells, markets...etc etc"

"... has achived world-wide recognition of its mark"

    never heard of them.

but if they registered the mark and are in the same field you can't do it.
that was a nasty letter though. he could have worded it in a more friendly manner.

My company has some products that share a name but are i different fields so they are allowed to do as such.

last year i had some trademark lawyer up my ass nice and deep just because of shit that was coming up on google. somehow google found an old website i used wget on and i left it there as the page that would come up if you didnt know the hostname but used the IP address.

the page did nothing and i put it there as a placeholder to get rid of snoopy people.

but damn, he was on me like flies on shit. i wasnt scared but he could have been nicer about it.
