It is. But you're not supposed to draw him/it or their prophet, Mohamed. I think it's Mohamed you're not supposed to draw pictures of, it's a major offense to the Muslim religion (I think... I don't know much about it).

    Howdy,

Thanks. :-) It was my intention all along, but I didn't consider that most sysops would only import SYNCDATA via one network technology (e.g. QWKnet) while seeing messages from those same systems/users on other network technologies (e.g. FTN) - so there was a gap there in the association between the 2 net-types and thus avatars weren't usually working on FTNs. It was pretty easy to fix but does require that systems update to SBBSecho v3.12 to see the benefit.

You'd need access to the SBBSDATA echo as part of your multimail feed,
and it would need to keep a local database.

I do think a web service lookup would be a good idea for other clients
to integrate with. Though it might bloat the output, even having the
author avatar as a header in the qwk packet as an option for each
message or extension file might be an idea as well.

Well, the first part is easy, given that I would be accessing my BBS.

Sounds like it needs a bit of thought. I haven't looked into avatars at all yet, because for me they currently serve no practical purpose.

So if i create a custom avatar and have AVAT-OUT (?avatars export) running,
the custom avatar will be on all DOVEnet BBSes as long as they have AVAT-IN running?
And if i have AVAT-OUT changed to ?avatars export -share, the custom avatars of the users become chooseable for other users on DOVEnet BBSes?

Correct, as in, your custom avatar will be displayed along with your content (e.g. network-posted messages).

And if i have AVAT-OUT changed to ?avatars export -share, the custom avatars of the users become chooseable for other users on DOVEnet BBSes?

No, -share is for exporting custom avatar *collections* typically created by the sysop (not users). I think the documentation covers this pretty well:
    https://wiki.synchro.net/module:avatars

Or is a custom Avatar usable by the user who has created it only always?

A custom personal user avatar is not available in the avatar chooser for other users to easily/automatically reuse (whether the avatar was exported to a network or not).
