That's a problem with a lot of old BBS doors that have been abandoned, when the maintainers are no longer responsive. Sysops who'd want to run it would have to resort to looking for a cracked version or using someone else's registration code..

Technically no, I suppose they aren't, but it's either that or run the door with limitations and/or registration nags. And if the owner of a door isn't interested in taking registration payments anymore, I'm not sure if they're going to care that someone's using a cracked version or someone else's registration key..

One doesn't need the Lord Legacy site for registrations, and never did. I registered verson 4.07 through Gameport in January of this year. Several other sysops have as well, according to multiple threads in BBS-related groups on Facebook.

people should NOT send a check to gameport via mail in 2020.

I registered one or two games with Gameport in 2010 and sent payment by check. I got codes back. I know that was quite a while ago though, and that was just before I started hearing people weren't getting responses back from them anymore.

Also even in 2010, I thought it was unusual that they wouldn't take payment via card online and I had to send them a check in the mail.

Like I said, for the third time now, I got my LORD key (as well as LORD2 key) from Gameport via snail mail in January of this year. I mailed a check, and when I saw it was cashed a few days later, I received my registration key via email. I will add that I had to stay on top of them before I did finally receive the key, so it wasn't exactly a perfect, painless transaction, but it worked out in the end.

My first detailed reply about it and when it took place was in response to someone else's reply implying that lordlegacy was needed to obtain keys, a message which I'm now no longer finding in the message base, and I'd guess it's probably gone from your message base too. Not my fault you can't find it now.

And yes, whether you believe it or not, a few people in various BBS-related FB groups have since reported success using Paypal to obtain their keys from Gameport. I take these individuals at their word.

Point is, multiple registrations have taken place this year for LORD from Gameport. I would implore others to not give up on Gameport and stay on top of them and try to obtain their keys legitimately.

I'm sure you'll reply to this and try to claim "bullshit". That's fine. I've spoken.

That's really the key to getting it resolved. If it helps, my communications were with William Hughes (bill@playnetwebhosting.com) and Lindsey Humphrey (lkcombest@mseaudio.com). Lindsey is the president of MSE Audio, which is the parent company of Metropolis Gameport, and William was the one who ultimately provided me with the codes. I made sure she was CC'd on all the communications.

years and years of experience and discussions with people who never got their code.

if you want to risk it, go ahead. it's just 15 bucks.
the owner works at or is the owner of multiserv in kansas. he also has side projects and side websites. he has this mseaudio.com website where he is
    handling emails for lord registrations.

10 years ago i know a guy who didnt get his registration code so he called up multiserv and they put him on hold until they found out what it was all about. a man answered who didnt give his name and then provided him with his reg code.

the only thing that gameport ever did was urge the developer to is change the reg scheme ASAP because some ass kisser sysop went and told gameport there were keygens for lord.

when they did have a decent developer they fucked him over 100 times and didnt give him the cut of the registrations they promised.
gameport still cant run a decent lord website so they are using preslar's website as the official lord site and he has been serving files for free for over a decade. that's how cheap this motherfucker who owns lord is.

when gameport was giving bad registation codes to people they also pointed to the developer. not his fault.

there is actually a registered version of lord out there and it is easy to find. it's right under everyone's noses.

it's an accidental leak of a registered copy and it's been out there since lord 4.08 patch

Why? It's not going to spur them to suddenly supporting or continuing development on it, and we have a new freely accessible JS port

Fair enough. People have their reasons for wanting or needing to run the DOS version though (hardware, BBS software, or just personal preference). Some may prefer the official release that works with the back catalog of existing IGMs. You did point out that new work is being done on the JS port IGMs, which is good news, and I hope it continues.

Just curious, have you tried grabbag? if yes, how messed up was the game? :)
    ~Mortifis

Yup, I have it installed here and it seems fine. I took a peek through your code for a quick rundown on a few character variable examples before I did the orphanage.

    Thanks so much Codefenix,

I was able to register Lord woth GamePort using the contact names you provided. I was able to pay with my credit card, and the process was smooth.

But do not try to contact them via their website... What a business model !!

    Thanks,

    Hi Havok,

This information comes from CodeFenix :
My communications were with William Hughes (bill@playnetwebhosting.com) and Lindsey Humphrey (lkcombest@mseaudio.com). Lindsey is the president of MSE Audio, which is the parent company of Metropolis Gameport, and William was the one who ultimately provided me with the codes. I made sure she was CC'd on all the communications.

They were able to send me an invoice, and i could pay with a credit card. I got the code the same night.
