Astronomy Picture of the Day [1]Discover the cosmos! Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer. 2023 July 19 [2]A rocket is seen after lift-off with a long smoke plume. The rocket is captured against a blue sky and has gone through a cloud deck. In the foreground is an empty tan-colored field. Please see the explanation for more detailed information. Chandrayaan-3 Launches to the Moon Image Credit & Copyright: [3]Sruthi Suresh ([4]Space Group) Explanation: [5]Birds don't fly this high. [6]Airplanes don't go this fast. The [7]Statue of Liberty weighs less. No [8]species other than [9]human can even comprehend [10]what is going on, nor could any [11]human just a [12]millennium ago. The launch of a [13]rocket bound for space is an event that [14]inspires awe and challenges description. Pictured here last week, the [15]Indian Space Research Organization's [16]LVM3 rocket [17]blasted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre on [18]Sriharikota Island, [19]India. From a standing start, the 600,000+ kilogram [20]rocket ship lifted the massive [21]Chandrayaan-3 off the Earth. The [22]Chandrayaan-3 mission is scheduled to reach the Moon in late August and land a [23]robotic rover near the [24]lunar South Pole. [25]Rockets bound for space are now [26]launched from somewhere on Earth [27]every few days.
