Hi, new question.
I'm not sure if this the right place for this question - but maybe someone can help.
Every Sunday here, we relay the WIA weekly amateur news bulletin through
the VK2RFS repeater. As the news runs for 30min we disable the repeater timeout (normally 3min) and use a transceiver connected to a PC to play the bulletin MP3 file.
This has always worked fine - but! Now we have the EchoIRLP node, last
Sunday a club member tried to listen via Echolink and found it dropped out after a fairly short time.
We also heard an error message about the 'COS lockout' when we stopped transmitting at the end. I looked into this and as far as I can tell it's a 'hardwired' feature of the Rpi based IRLP system to reset the node after 4 min of the the COS being open, to prevent problems with interference, equipment failure etc.
Any ideas, anyone, on how to set things up so that Echolink users can
listen to the whole 30min bulletin?

The COS lockout is an IRLP feature, not part of EchoIRLP. Refer to < http://www.irlp.net/err-codes.html>. There is no method to disable the COS LOCKOUT timer. Its purpose is to prevent the node from locking up remote systems. Even if it could be disabled, most remote nodes would still
timeout their transmitters.
Best practice is to break up audio feeds such as you described so as to interrupt the transmission every two to three minutes to allow radios/repeaters to unkey and reset their timeout timers. This may also prevent radios from overheating that are not designed for 100% duty cycle. You may find scripts to break up audio file transmissions like these. The ARRL and ARNewsline include audio reminders and pauses to allow for
unkeying within the audio file.

Thanks for the info, all understood. We have actually discussed inserting breaks, so that's probably the way to go.
One idea, I think I read somewhere that audio files can be played back in
the IRLP software - would that get around the COS timer?

Another method would be for someone to set up an IRLP (experimental) node like 0016 for WIA. Skip Hansen (WB6YMH) set up 0016 to play the latest AR Newsline audio for anyone who connects. It includes brief pauses every
couple of minutes to reset transmitters.
