    Mardi Gras Raven
    ash wednesday 2006

    the raven came upon me
    in full regalia
    black ink dripping
    from the tips of his wings

    came swooping into the parade
    singing omens
    dropping scrolls
    and death walked close behind

    we were in the middle of forgetting
    swimming through the drunken streets
    when the mardi gras raven
    cawed us awake
    a cacophony of colours spilled
    from that house on clouet street

    with our numbers sweeled
    by the recently departed
    the scoiety of st. anne stepped gaily forth
    to perfrom the solemn duty of debauchery
    last rites
    for a thing called justice
