    wasn't it this bend of the river
    where you tried to map out our delta
    destiny forking in contrary visions
    while the water wandered balefully by

    downriver from our voiced convictions
    the natives report that we are still dancing
    gathering the silted waters
    to hang above the heads of the rich

    if there could be a job for us
    it would be this
    the confluence of our conflict spent
    in spellwork undoing our duties

    but our country can't stand us
    to be out of their sight
    already the phone is ringing
    and we will have to put destiny on hold
    as you climb back into the truck
    and go back to work
