• finger on arch linux

    From lkh@lkh@cosmic.voyage to tilde.meta on Fri Jul 15 17:48:03 2022
    Hi,

so after I've set up my .plan and .project on the pubnixes I use, I
tried to look up myself from my arch linux laptop. But surprise, there's
no finger program on arch ... bummer!

Anyone know where to get finger for linux? sources would be best.

Google fu didn't yield much ...

    Cheers,

    lkh

    Try something like ...

    $ echo yeti | nc tilde.institute finger

Checking the details of packages for other distros often works
better than general searches for tools like these (except for
things like rexec where they're in the sources but nobody puts
    them into packages).

    For Debian:

    bsd-finger http://deb.debian.org/debian/pool/main/b/bsd-finger/bsd-finger_0.17-15.2.debian.tar.bz2
    http://deb.debian.org/debian/pool/main/b/bsd-finger/bsd-finger_0.17.orig.tar.bz2

You can pull the sources down from Debian repos with apt package
manager. I think you can install apt on Arch, although you can't use it
for Arch package management you can use the --download-only and sources switches to download the source archives.

Apt gives this link for the finger homepage: http://ftp.linux.org.uk/pub/linux/Networking/netkit/
