Anyone know where to get finger for linux? sources would be best.
so after I've set up my .plan and .project on the pubnixes I use, I
tried to look up myself from my arch linux laptop. But surprise, there's
no finger program on arch ... bummer!

Try something like ...
$ echo yeti | nc tilde.institute finger
You can pull the sources down from Debian repos with apt package
manager. I think you can install apt on Arch, although you can't use it
for Arch package management you can use the --download-only and sources switches to download the source archives.
Apt gives this link for the finger homepage: http://ftp.linux.org.uk/pub/linux/Networking/netkit/
