• Looking for more users for my other IRC endeavor...

    From deepend@deepend@tilde.club to tilde.club on Tue Jan 3 23:00:08 2023
    Hey ~clubbers!

    I am just posting to see if anyone wants to join the IRC network I
    recently took over. It was one that is my first IRC experience. So when
    given the chance to take it over I jumped at that chance. would really
    like to see it grow for the first time in probably 15-20 years.

    Could use more users. I haven't mentioned on IRC since I feel that I
    shouldn't advertise my other IRC network on the tilde.chat IRC network.
    And I'm not real sure where I can mention it without burning bridges. I
    like my bridges ;)

    So here I am. :D

    Its setup very similar to tilde.chat. IP's of users are hidden by
    default. *admins of the network can see the IP's but users cannot.

    Anyways the network is:

    Newnet IRC Network https://newnet.net/

    irc.newnet.net port: 6667(non-ssl) 6697(SSL)

    Hope to see you there. :)

    Hi ~deepend,

    The tilde.club MOTD says something regarding the "local" IRC channels.
    Those have something to do with the tilde.chat chatrooms?

    ~peron

    P.S. Glad to see you there!

    Nope, the "channels" are tied to IRC network; #club on tilde.chat
    continues to be admins' contact point and Tilde.club members' hangout
    of the *Tilde.chat* IRC universe; Tilde.club's existence
    in other alternate universe [1] notwithstanding.

    The thing that MOTD is speaking of is rather about the IRC *server*
    that is running directly on Tilde.club (i.e. <irc://localhost:6667/>
    when accessed from within the box); which since mid-2019 to today
    and the next few days, has been being a warp point linking into
    into Tilde.chat IRC universe, known from that side
    as the gate <ircs://club.tilde.chat/>.

    What MOTD announces is the destination change of <irc://localhost:6667/>
    warp gate, to link into Newnet.net IRC universe. After the change, <ircs://club.tilde.chat/> entry point would be no more;
    and Tilde.club would join the rank of Tildeverse servers
    with no on-site Tilde.chat IRC node, like Tilde.pink, rw.rs,
    breadpunk.club, and Tilde.guru.

    If you are currently using IRC externally via <ircs://irc.tilde.chat/>,
    then there would be no change to your IRC experience whatsoever;
    you would continue to use Tilde.chat and its version of #club.

    This notice is mostly of interest to people who have been using IRC
    via on-Tilde.club TUI client connecting to <irc://localhost:6667/>.
    Which, *if* they would like to continue using Tilde.chat's version of #club
    and other channels, they would have to reconfigure the client
    to explicitly go to Tilde.chat universe <ircs://irc.tilde.chat/> for that, after the IRC server restart on the changeover date,
    or whenever it's convenient to them; whichever come first.

    In any case, #club channel exists in both universes (as already stated
    in the first paragraph); so whether you want to explore the new universe, become a cross-dimensional being (like me, haha), or stay in
    the old universe; are likely depending more on which and where
    you actually make use of IRC channels other than #club, I guess.

    Regards,

    [1] At the time of this writing, there is an alternate-universe
    version of #club channel, at Newnet.net IRC network;
    governed by different rules. (This one and Tilde.chat's one
    are not bridged together)

    looks like you have that question handled wonderfully. Let me know if
    there are further questions.

    Thanks,
