    Hello everyone,

I have been wondering for a long time now,
about some kind of children sport or physical game
that would comprise in a long grid with numbers
    written (usually by chalk) on the floor;
then player would jump into it,
and then hop between cells with different number.
Not sure what the actual rules was.

The grid would look like this from above:

    _-_
    /' 6 `\
    ,---.---.
    | 4 | 5 |
    |___|___|
    | |
    | 3 |
    +---+
    | 2 |
    |___|
    | |
    | 1 |
    '---'

(In case the drawing wasn't clear enough,
I also have a screencap [2] from one of the films
    that I have spotted this)

This sport/game might be originated from the west,
    and I have seen this kind of grid-on-the-floor from several films;
but couldn't figure out what on earth that sport was.
Do anyone here know what this sport actually is?

    Regards,
    ~xwindows

In the US, this game is called Hopscotch. You'll find the rules at

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hopscotch

It's a lot of fun. I don't really see kids playing such games any more.
    I bet they don't think it's fun.

I saw it a lot in my childhood[0], but never got the rules explained and
I only remember girls playing this. It did not even look interesting to
watch others jump by the rules I did not understand. Seems it did not
harm to grow up without it!

Don't tell me *now* I was missing something very important.

    Eeeeek... forgot the footnote...

    ____________

0: The days where phones were rare and the world was B&W[1].

1: At least in the TVs that were even more rare than phones, but not
only because of being built with tubes, they where the hot thing to
    have those days.
