So it looks like Elon Musk might actually buy Twitter. If he succeeds, this ought to be interesting enough to get out the popcorn and watch the fireworks on Twitter.

I've only heard some occassional news on the matter in the last
few weeks. Interesting. And if I remember correctly, his
intention is to revert it back to a private company - in order
to avoid the current scrutiny that public companies endure.
That's an innovative and genius move. Twitter has now
established itself as a viable advertiser model, so it could
probably succeed as a private biz now.

Twitter expected to finalize deal with Musk on Monday: Reports

by Christopher Hutton, Breaking News Reporter
    April 25, 2022 09:53 AM

Twitter is expected to finalize a deal with Elon Musk on Monday.

Several news outlets are reporting that Twitter will likely announce its
decision to accept Musk's initial offer to purchase the tech company and
    make it private.

Twitter is expected to announce its acceptance of the $54.20-per-share
deal on Monday after the tech company meets to recommend the transaction
to its shareholders, according to Reuters. However, there is still a
possibility that the deal may collapse, according to sources.

The company's shares spiked 5% in premarket trading after initial reports
of the company's willingness to accept Musk's takeover bid, according to
    the Washington Post.

Twitter officials met with Musk on Sunday to discuss his proposed deal,
and they attempted to determine the company's total value before agreeing
to any deal with the billionaire.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission last week, Musk
said he was exploring a tender offer to purchase Twitter stock at $54.20
per share - a number he reportedly told Twitter Chairman Bret Taylor he
does not intend to budge from. Musk claimed he secured $46.5 billion in
    financing to purchase the shares.

Twitter initially responded to Musk's offer with hesitancy, implementing a
"poison pill" that would limit Musk's ability to purchase all of Twitter's
stock without the board's approval. Twitter employees appeared concerned
about Musk's acquisition, requiring Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal to assure
employees at an all-hands meeting that the board was not being "held
    hostage" by the offer.

House Republicans asked Twitter last week to maintain all records of its
dealings with Musk over the offer due to concerns about fiduciary duty and
    potential limitations on free speech.

I don't think there will be big changes to the way Twitter works torwards the end user, but when ownership changes, the first thing they do is to behead all the middle-rank supervisors and replace them with ones chosen by the new owner.

It is going to be so fun to watch all the Twitter censors be put to the sword. Die, suckers, die!

I think all the nutjob lefties will leave Twitter and the moderate left will remain. I have several Democrat friends that I like to spar politically with but we agree to disagree (though we do agree on a surprising number of issues) and move on.

Why do lefties panick everytime their favourite platform is purchased?

They did just the same thing with the Freenode drama. They started accusing the new owner of being a Trump supporter and left before he took any measure.
The few that remained back were openly hostile torward the new management and started complaining when channels which promoted Liberachat (Freenode's competitor) were closed.

The fact the new owner was an abysmal manager and managed to piss of the users who wanted to stay didn't help either.

Maybe that is right in Twitter's case, but I can't figure out how that could be the
case with other platforms. Following up with the Freenode example, Freenode didn't
have a pushed narrative and there were very anti-left channels and users and nobody
complained. Same with Libera, where all the users fled after Freenode started getting
    bad press.

Not really. It shows a core weakness of freedom loving individuals.

If a self-declared communist was purchasing Twitter instead, left-wingers would endorse the operation but the rest of the people would remain in the platform and bit
the bullet, therefore aiding the newcomer communist to make more money. Money that
would eventually be used in the fight againts freedom.

Meanwhile, when the left has the slightest of suspicions that somebody may not be one
of them they make sure that person does not get a dime of their money.

If rational freedom loving people had what it takes they would leave the facebooks and

Actually, most people needs short concepts because they fail to understand anything bigger.

As a practical example: a common complaint in Spain was that it was hard to figure out what a unknown party represented because they rarely published their ideas or programs somewhere you could read them. Most Spaniards don't know what a libertarian *is* so if they hit the Libertarian Party's website they will have no idea of what the party fights for unless it is explained to them. So far, this is common sense.

The Libertarian Party ended up publishing a mini program with the easy-to-understand ideas in the website, alongside a full program worth 200 fucking pages of what the party is, what the goals are, and what is the plan to get them. The idea is that people could get a feel for what the party was from the mini program and then delve deeper in the bigger document if they wanted to know more.

    The end result was ridiculous.

I personally ran into a lot of people who accused the Libertarian Party of endorsing things that were clearly opposed by the program. The conversations usually went like this:

Random Paco: "You Libertarian's suck because you support the Church and are anti-gay"
ME: "Not really. We want separation between the Church and the State and we also have anti-discrimination proposals. It is explained in the website."
Ranom Paco: "I read in your website that you are Capitalists, so that means you are pro Church and anti-gay!"
ME: "You haven't read the pdf with the political framework, have you?"
Random Paco: "Bleh, that is too much work."

Common people wants to be sponfed three core ideas and don't want to investigate the arguments backing these ideas. Doing the work required to decide if somebody is worth voting is too much work I guess. They will be content with a card with three slogans thrown in, and that is what they will get most often, because extra effort is wasted.

Think of it. A card with three easy consigns such as "We love gays" and "Tax the rich!" is so much more effective than four sheet of paper, because people does not want to delve deeper.
