Heat pumps are horrible - especially for heat. They cost a fortune to
run and don't even warm up that much. It is a cheap and easy way for builders to get HVAC into some homes.

I would much rather have natural gas, propane, or oil heat. Anything
buy a heat pump. Never had one in any of the homes I have lived. I
have had oil and natural gas.

Agreed! It's basically a big electric heater! My mom convinced me to get
gas because a flame is hot, regardless! :-)

Not to mention heat pumps don't get nearly as warm as natural gas, propane, oil, etc. They saved builders money though, because they wouldn't have to pay the country to run natural gas lines into the neighborhoods and could slap the heat pumps on the house which was easy.

These days you can get underground propane tanks which is cosmetically better than having lots of tanks against the house.

The other bonus if you have natural gas, you can get a whole house generator that runs on natural gas. Much quieter and endless supply of fuel.

Interesting - didn't know that! We live in the country so no city gas. We
have a propane tank off to one end of the house. The only thing we have
that's NOT electric is the heating, so it only gets used in the winter...

My Dad has an underground propane tank, which in his case is only used for powering the whole house generator when needed. He lives in Florida where they lose power often from storms, hurricanes, etc.
