    Hi veryone,

I'm going to have cataract surgery in an hour on my right eye. Hoping all
goes well. I can't wait to have 20/20 vision again in both eyes.

    Best of luck on that.

When I had that done 15 years ago, my visual acuity went from 20/2000
to 20/20 with a little bit of astigmatism. I don't mind wearing the
reading glasses, especially when working at the computer, or trying to
    read the cellphone.

Dr. Mike McFarland, who pioneered the no-stitch cataract surgery, did
mine. When he came out with it, they thought he was crazy. Now, it's the industry standard.

He had a beautiful 12 string guitar that my late wife, Janice was
    literally "lusting" over. <G>

    Hi everyone,

I now have 20/20 vision in both eyes. However, the cataracts were hiding
how bad my near vision really is. I'm now wearing 1.50 power reading
glasses for my computer and 2.50 power readers to see my phone. Getting old

    Sean,

were hiding how bad my near vision really is. I'm now wearing
1.50 power reading glasses for my computer and 2.50 power

First, fine business on the 20/20 vision. I started with 1.50
reading glasses, but have upgraded to 2.0 -- the hardest thing is
keeping them clean. Or, as the late Red Skelton noted, "I don't
need these, but I've reached the age where curiosity is greater
    than vanity". <G>

Second, while they can "restore" or "improve" one's vision with doing cataract surgery...once blindness takes hold from glaucoma, the eyesight
can NOT be restored. So, that's why it's imperative to get yearly eye
exams. If glaucoma is detected, if it's in the early stages, they can
prescribe medication to slow its progress. I myself have "suspect glaucoma", but the eye pressures last May were 9 and 10 respectively...and they have
    never been that good.

Lastly, getting old is not for sissies...and if you call me a sissy,
I'll hit you with my purse <G>.

I get diabetic eye exams every six months. I am not worried about glaucoma right now as my diabetic retinopathy is threatening to take my vision.

Long ago my optometrist found my eye pressures getting high and I needed
to start on Glaucoma medication. My peripheral vision is still pretty
much perfect and my pressures for probably 35 years now have averaged
from 13 to 18 usually which is not too bad (13 and 14 a month ago).

I have always needed glasses for distance but not for reading, which
is great since I spend a lot of hours reading.

I do get shots in my eyes but they are on hold while my eyes heal from
the recent surgeries. I had a "blowout" in my left eye in
September--one of the blood vessel masses broke open and bled into my
eye--but my body absorbed 90% of the blood. I'll be getting laser
surgery to burn thoe leaky blood vessels shut sometime in the next year.

I am still waitinbg for my insulin oump as no one seems to know what's
    going on. Typical VA stupidity.
