    I did the same with Plex when they had a black friday sale, I think it was about $120 Canadian dollars (normally $160 Canadian).

    I'm cheap, I just use DLNA on my Synology to share media to my Roku
    using their media player. What am I missing out on?

    I use minidlna on my linux box to serve up videos on my TV. Reliable,
    free :)

    I still use Kodi on the Nvidia Shields that I have connected to the TVs in the house. I have used it since the XBMC days (when I ran it on modded XBOX consoles).

    It works via UNC paths to my data server where all the content lives.
