• I have just become energy self-sufficient AMA

So I have just achieved a big degree of energetic self-sufficiency, and I thought I could get a thread started regarding the subject.

Basically, I have set a ppair of photovoltaic arrays for a total power output of 5 Kilowatts, and a battery bank worth 15 kilowatts hour. The photovoltaic array powers the house and charges the battery bank during sun hours, and the house is powered by the battery bank alone during dark hours. So I have not consummed a single watt second from the grid since the system became operational. I estimate this will make me self-sufficient for 94% of the year.

I have a diesel generator which I will pair with this system once I finish building a hut for it XD. The idea is that the generator will turn on if the batteries go down and there is no grid power available.

New or used arrays? I suppose you can operate a water pump for
ALL your water supply needs? Do you feed some lights to the
    barn?

Every element in the array is new.

I source my water from regular water mains, but the system is capable of supplying the whole house with water from a water pump (tested).

I don t like to have electric components near the barn. I think having lightbuls etc. in a barn is begging for a fire.

    Even LED-based?

I suppose you use a portable battery-powered lanterns at
    nighttime then?
